Prestonsburg had zero business playing in this tournament.

Prestonsburg didn’t have the resume to be in the WYMT

I agree, Prestonsburg had no business in this tournament. Outside of three players, they have no one who is physically capable of playing varsity basketball on this roster. The kids play hard but outside of Allen, Napier, and Keithley they just don't have the role players to be competitive. I'm not knocking the kids, but I'm being realistic. We have never been a basketball powerhouse, but I've heard our program over the next couple of years could be as down as it's ever been. I hope these boys can turn things around this year but it's going to be an uphill battle.

I think that’s the biggest concern moving forward is what Prestonsburg will look like after this year. Allen and Napier graduate. You have to think there’s zero chance Keathley stays on a team when he’s going to have next to no help. Where do they turn? There’s not a collection of youth knocking down the door to play. Heck, Hazard had more coaches on the bench than we had players. That’s a glaring issue. Why is that? I have my thoughts which are really more confirmations than thoughts but I’ll keep those to myself. Call it what it is but the future of Prestonsburg basketball is probably as low as it’s ever been.

Gotta give it to the kids for going out and competing, especially the young ones like previously mentioned who play hard, but the program took a big setback by hiring Harold Tackett, noticed him at the FC game the other night and he just had that demeanor that he didn't want to be there, if that's the case and it just 2-3 games into the season, it's going to be a long one for the Blackcats. I looked at their schedule, is there a likelihood that they don't win a game this season? Is there one winnable game on their schedule?

I like Harold as a person, but he just doesn't have the energy to breath any life back into the program. I have heard rumors about this being a one year hire, but why would the administration hire a guy for one year? Without a influx of transfers, I don't see any up and coming coach taking the job with the cupboard being bare. As far as winnable games, I think there are a few they can win such as East Ridge and Phelps. I am sure there are others, but those two are the most winnable games in my opinion. If there was a coaching change who would take the job, or who should take the job? If I had a kid who wanted to play basketball and was in the system, I would be worried.
Pburg played like middle schoolers lol. Better get a new coach or it’ll be a long season. Braxton is shooting his arm
Off.

I agree Pbrug shouldn’t have been in the tournament. The coach looks like he doesn’t want to be there. Next year the blackcats will be in shambles.

Doug Hopkins. He’s back at the Middle School coaching. Give it to him and let him go to work.

Ive seen keathley play two games. Was expecting big things. Good HS player but no star. Heard he could be D1. He doesn’t have enough athleticism but i think he may have a chance to play NAIA one day. Im not knocking him. Just trying to give an honest evaluation of the kid. I sincerely wish him well.

Good player, fantastic kid. Being persuaded to do things you can get away with in AAU but not at a high school program. If you have people making you get your numbers no matter the situation, you should just go prep. Prestonsburg controlled tonight’s matchup with Pineville for quite a while and it was because there was balanced scoring. I think we had 4 or 5 in double figures. We didn’t win but we lead for most of the game. When he learns that in high school you have to play within a system, this team can take a step forward. But as long as he’s being pressed to get 25+ or else it’s a failure, this team will continue to quit like it has up to this point.

Harold Tackett was a bad hire. His overall track record in high school didn't scream home run hire. Brandon Gearheart or Brent Rose should still be coaching at Prestonsburg but for whatever reasons, they had short lived stints with the Blackcats. You can't fault Huff for leaving for tradition rich Knott Central and Parsley had a chance to advance his career at the prison. For Prestonsburg's sake, hopefully Tackett is only an interim coach.
I read on here something about Keathley looked into transferring to Shelby Valley but that didn't work out. I think if he was really looking to showcase his talent and get better, he would have transferred to Wesley Christian. If he stays at Prestonsburg he may wind up like his sister who did sign with D-1 Presbyterian and then Morehead State and barely played at either after getting a considerable amount of hype.

Keathley is a one man show for sure. Feel sorry for the kid. He is triple teamed everytime he takes the floor.

They need someone similar to Hager, and what he brought to the football program this year. Is there any up and coming younger coaches with Prestonsburg ties? I'm sure there aren't a lot of big named coaches beating down the door to coach at Prestonsburg, so if we could find a younger guy who isn't going to jump ship in a couple of years, why not take a chance!

All that time in the gym for keathley isn’t worth it. He needs to get out of pburg and go to a real contending team.

I hate to be the panic guy, but I think there should be a sense of panic in Pburg right now to prevent this season from possibly being a winless season. No excuse that we aren’t winning games with the amount of talent out there on the floor. I’m not talking about the Hazard game, but Pburg should have 2 or 3 wins right now but they self destruct against teams that they should beat. Not sure what’s going on in the locker room, but a leader needs to step up and fix it.

They had that in Brandon Gearheart but then pushed him out for Brent Rose. I'd rather have Gearheart than Rose, but honestly if Harold Tackett is the best you can do, then I'd have Brent any day if I had to pick between those two.
