Somerset vs Danville. Thoughts?
#2
I've been rooting for Danville to win a game all season ... but I truly thought Leslie County was their only chance which didn't happen. No way the Jumpers are letting this one slide. This will be a good district game for the Jumpers to get back in the swing of things after coming off their bye week. I'm predicting a running clock by the half and we could possibly see more JV play time this game as I think Clevenger will want to hold off on a total domination out of respect.

He beat them 50-7 last season.  I'm not sure how much he holds back, with only 3 games until the playoffs to fine tune things.

I agree. With where we are in the season, there isn't time for anything less than playing the best game possible.

A class act won’t take Danville’s failed administrative decisions out on kids….He won’t!

I don't think Coach Clevinger has any interest in embarrassing the Danville kids. From everything I have heard about him, he doesn't seem like that kind of man. He's no Tom Greer.

I think we need to take this into consideration: Coach Clevenger doesn't need to try and embarrass Danville. His team is on an upward trajectory with a bright future while the Admirals haven't scored a touchdown in, how many weeks?  I bring this up in case the score is incredibly lopsided, and should people accuse him of running up the score, it deserves to be noted that every team has beaten Danville by massive margins.

This. I don't think he'll kick it onside or run trick plays after a running clock, doesn't mean the game won't get out of hand. The younger players that get put in late don't want to just go out there and go through the motions until the game is over. They'll want to score too. I don't pretend to know what the mentality at Somerset is these days, but for the longest time the kids growing up and playing football in Somerset had their sights set on one goal: beat Danville.

I've been thinking about this one. What are the chances the Ads get their first win? Well, you know that comet that's been visible in the sky recently? Comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas, I think is its name. Danville has about the same chance of winning this game as that comet has of crashing to earth and land landing in my lap while I am eating my chicken livers from KFC, which were made for me ,fresh, by the Colonel himself, who just returned to earth after spending the lst several decades in the pits of hell.

I agree completely - this was kind of my point in my first post but I think I worded it wrong or could have been taken several different ways. I'm sure it will be a blowout like the rest of their games ... and I'm sure they could have all been much worse blowouts than they ended up being. I expect that the JV team or 2nd string players will want to score - and I hope they do! They deserve to get in there and have fun, too. When I said Clevenger wouldn't run off with the game I meant leaving starters in until the end to see how high he could run the score up. I just don't think that's his style. But if kids are scoring then it is what it is. There were several games last year that we had a running clock and our starters only played 2 qtrs.

And I guarantee that if those younger Somerset players go out there and want to score, then they will.
