Shelby Valley 14 PIke Co Central 12
#1
Final from Pike Central

Hawks lead 12-0 at the half, but Shelby Valley pulls off the comeback and dominates much of the second half to get their first win on the season and a district win at that. Pike Central was absolutely gassed in the 4th quarter and I think that definitely benefitted Shelby Valley. Hawks took over possession with 5 mins left, but they were put into a passing situation and just wasn't able to complete any passes. Makes one wonder if Knuckles hadn't been suspended that this one might have played out a little differently.

Congrats to Shelby Valley!

They'll travel to Betsy Layne next week for what'll be a HUGE 2A district 8 matchup.

Really close game between two evenly matched teams. Central jumps out to a 12-0 lead at halftime, but SV controls the 2nd half and scores 14 unanswered. The difference in the game was SV getting one of their 2-point conversions.

I would be curious to know the final tally in penalties, because Valley sure had a bunch of them what time I was watching in the 2nd half. I'm not even saying most of them weren't legit penalties, because they may have been. But that roughing the kicker call near the end of the game, with Central was backed up into a 4th-and-forever, was brutal. It looked like the ball was tipped anyway, which should negate the roughing call. But even if not, the defender barely bumped the punter as he was kicking the ball, would that not have been "running into the kicker" and just a 5-yard penalty?

Anyway, it was certainly not pretty, but at least SV got off the mat with a win. This is also the 6th straight win over Pike Central in this intracounty rivalry.
