Floyd Central at Prestonsburg 10/18

Floyd Central vs Prestonsburg. Thoughts?
#2
Pburg, poor FC is down their best and starting QB. Having to reply on too many young guys for minutes.. Pburg by 2-3 scores and a running clock would not surprise me...

PBurg should win comfortably. This is a rivalry game and also the first Hager bowl. I can see a scenario where this isn’t a running clock but I can’t quite see a scenario in which PBurg loses

Gotta go with little Hager in this one. Only questions are will it be a running clock and who does momma Hager cheer for.

Prestonsburg wins the State Championship of Floyd County.

I see the Blackcats winning by a comfortable margin. They are improving each week and Floyd Central has been struggling all year due to injuries.

Two teams stand between Prestonsburg and a district championship, that's Floyd Central and Knott Co Central.

It'll be senior night for 4 Prestonsburg players, including 2 starters and do it all players in Alex Harris and Dalton Elliott. Both programs are coming off a bye week. It's not only a district matchup, it's a county game, it's a matchup between father and son, and it's a game that Floyd Central won last season, 40-28. I know things are much different for both programs this season, but there's a lot of guys on that FC roster that I'm sure remember winning that football game. That probably gives a lot of those guys some confidence. I'm sure coach Shawn Hager will have that team ready for Prestonsburg.

On paper, this game shouldn't be close at all. Floyd Central gives up almost 50 points a game, they allow over 400 yards a game, and honestly, there's no positives really to take away from their defense. They don't tackle well, they get gassed easily, and they give up a ton of big plays. Offensively, FC can move the football and has been in some shootouts. I've heard through the grapevine also that we could see Jace Martin suit up for the Jags as well, so that's something Prestonsburg might need to be prepared for Friday. With or without Martin, Prestonsburg is going to want to create havoc in the FC backfield. I think Prestonsburg is one of the leaders in 2A in tackles for loss and they have a opportunity to get a bunch in this one if they come out and play aggressive.

Prestonsburg needs to come out and take care of business early in this one. Much like the Pike Central game. Don't allow Floyd Central to get any early momentum and make them earn every yard. I think Prestonsburg has a major speed advantage over Floyd Central. I don't think FC is going to have much luck keeping Harris and Elliott from getting off tackle and rumbling for big plays. The Jags secondary is gonna have to play MUCH better than they have been recently to limit big Prestonsburg plays.

I like how the Blackcats matchup with Floyd Central and I think the Blackcats win the "Hager Bowl" for the seniors big.... Pburg by a running clock.

I'd say she'll be rooting for her boy in this one. She's rooted for her husband for many years now, this is Wes first HC gig, and what a way to start a coaching career undefeated, I'd say the elder Hager will have no problem with that.

As for how the game goes? I'd say FC will come out playing competitive, big time rivalry game with a lot riding on it but Pburg has found an identity with their running game, and the O-line has improved every single game. Games around here are always won in the trenches, and Pburg will prove that as the game goes on.

I got Hager winning this matchup  Tongue

Things are about as bad as they can get at Floyd Central! Rumor is Hager is retiring after this year and they will be looking for a new head coach. This season has been a disaster with multiple injuries, and most recently a loss at home against Knott County. I think it's a good idea for Hager and Floyd Central to turn the page. As far as the game goes, I look for Prestonsburg to score early and often. I don't think Hager will embarrass his father, but a running clock will happen with the younger guys getting a lot of playing time. I can see the score being somewhere in the ballpark of 42-14, or 36-7. Over the next two weeks, Prestonsburg's main goal is of course to win, but to avoid any injuries which could set them back for a playoff run. A lot of the younger kids should see a lot of snaps which will pay dividends for next year. On paper the Breathitt game has little importance, but you want to try to go into the playoffs undefeated, and continue to carry much needed momentum. Hail Blackcats!

Hager Bowl. Floyd Central At Prestonsburg

This one will not be close. Running clock and son beats father. Although on paper this game shouldn't be close. A lot of tension will be had at this district matchup and the Black cats will prevail and move to 8-0 on the year with only one more district matchup ahead, Knott Central. Big couple of weeks for the Coach Hager and the Cats. Should be another fun one at Josh Francis Field. A good way to have a senior sendoff.

The Breathitt game is actually more important than you may think. With RPI it could be the difference in being on the road or at home in the regional finals if they make it that far.

Absolutely

If Prestonsburg wins out and makes it to the quarterfinals, they’ll host that game. Losing to Breathitt more than likely makes that quarterfinal game away.

Breathitt County game has huge implications.

You're right. I forgot about the RPI and I was thinking of the old playoff system.
