Highlands 17 Lexington Catholic 7
#1
Final

I watch some of this game online. Tayden Lorenzen caught a 2 point conversion which was nice to see.

This game was supposed to be a beat down…..what happened? Was Highlands not as good as expected or Catholic better then expected?

Highlands outweighed LC on the line by an average of 75-100 pounds and that’s not an exaggeration. Catholic’s defense did a good job limiting big plays. I don’t recall see many chunk plays through the air for Highlands.

However, Highlands had their way on defense with Catholic’s smaller OL and that was the difference in the game.

It was a good game to kickoff the season, and I think both teams will have successful seasons in their respective classes.

I never said it would be a beat down, thought Highlands would win but had concerns. Highlands offense is not that good. Like I stated in pregame , I was not to impressed with QB play or RB’s. A lot of talk about how good this coach is and I am still not impressed. Offensive play calling is poor in my opinion. I thought defense looked pretty good. Highlands needs to clean up PF’s and late hits!
Lex Cath had a ton of penalties!  They also had game stoppages about ten times for guys with cramps (none for highlands), it was so many that I almost wonder if it was purposeful to slow up the game. Because of above and other injuries the game never had a flow. Speaking of injuries, it did not look good for #2 being carried off the field, prayers that he is ok!  LC did some good things but didn’t look ready last night. The QB was very inconsistent, he has some good WR’s to work with (#14 and 11).

They may not beat Boone as bad as they looked.

That is quite a bit the exaggeration!

Still have to wonder why the game ended as close as it did with all the talent and size Highlands has. Nice job of competing for lex cath but if Highlands is truly a contender then Id like to think we should expect more than this

I watched the whole game. I was waiting for Highlands to turn it on. It never happened. QB does not impress me. They better figure it out.

I though that the HHS play calling was terrible from the start. It felt like the offensive coordinator was trying to hit a home run with every play call. Passing game was either a bubble screen or all WR's run deep routes- 15 yard minimum each WR. No way to run an efficient passing game. HHS passing games lacks any type of cohesion between the routes. The routes do not compliment each other and they never put a defender in conflict. HHS how about trying a simple curl/flat concept to get your feet wet on stressing a defender and defense....baby steps!

I think if they would have lined up and pounded the rock it would have opened up the passing game. As poorly designed the passing game is, they might have hit some of those deep shots after setting it up with the run. Not sure they would have had to even throw the ball that much if they committed to running the ball.
