Evangel Christian 52 Pikeville 37 (All "A" Classic Quarterfinal)
#1
Final from Corbin.

Pikeville did not play well either game in the state tournament aside from Charlie Fitzer. I thought that young man played well and has matured this year. Keeps getting better. They have a nice freshman in Cole Slone who maybe should see the floor more than he does. They played maybe their worst game of the year in the regional All A against Prestonsburg. I feel they overlooked Prestonsburg. Played with good energy against Martin County but man they didn’t look good in Corbin at all. They are limited athletically by the current personnel they play and it shows up against athletic teams. Martin County is more athletic but they get outcoached. Pikeville still a strong favorite in the 15th but it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them beaten out early in region either. Hard team to predict.

Better team won, but a hard fought game from PHS. Losing Jarrell less than 25 seconds into the game was a blow that took a while to adjust to and once Evangel built that 21-10 lead, it stayed there about the rest of the way.

Still a good run from the Panthers. Now the focus to turns to District & Region Champions.

Hail Pikeville!

I think Martin has won 2 of the last 4 region titles  I’m not sure about being out coached.   They beat Pikeville both times last yr if I remember and they are down there starting pg bc of a leg injury.  Were they suppose to beat Pikeville twice last yr?  Bc I for sure didn’t give them much of a chance.   That pg that’s out can play that’s a tough loss for them.      I wish I had james right now at Floyd c  we are a mess

In my opinion, when you have Hale, McKenzie, and Spurlock, you should be the favorite over Pikeville. I think Pikeville relied on Rylee Samons heavily last year and rightfully so. Very silly turnovers against the press is the only reason Martin County won last year. Pikeville had both of those in hand but credit to the Cardinals for getting it done. The All A region this year was also controlled by Pikeville much like the 2 meetings last year but I don’t think they had as many poor turnovers. The senior Martin County lost last year was a big loss and I agree losing their point guard was a season changer for them. I still think they should be the favorite with their personnel but I don’t think they are always used the best way possible. Just my opinion and I think Pikeville will beat them again if they match up in region and Martin County decides to play the same style. I think they are the best 2 teams in the region but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see either or both lose before the finals though.  Floyd Central has some talent for sure. Only watched them twice this year but I agree they haven’t looked sharp.  I think they can beat anyone in a given night but they also seem to be able to be beaten on any given night. Didn’t realize they had lost like 7 straight before today.
