Is it being high on a team or just optimistic for the team you root for?

asking for a friend.

I have not seen one LC fan claim anything crazy with the exception of Pugh being a top 5 linebacker in the state. I have seen a few of them (including me) say that Leslie has some offensive weapons which is true (look at the stats) and that Leslie will beat Middlesboro. Nothing crazy and I don’t know a single person that would say middlesboro is the heavy favorite. Leslie may lose and I wouldn’t be shocked but I don’t think having confidence that your team will win a fairly even matchup is being “high” in a team.
I  haven't saw Leslie play yet but am making the long drive from Jackson to see this one. I'm not saying you guys are wrong it just seems a lot of this optimism has came out of no where. All the guys I've talked to this summer and during 1st few weeks of season only mentioned Breathitt and Middlesboro as front runners. I respect some of your guys assessment which is what is making this a hard game to call.

I don't know if Grigsby is 100% or not.
Purely speculation but here goes
If Grigsby is at or near 100% I would take Middlesboro by 14-17 pts.
If Grigsby plays but is closer to 50% Middlesboro by 7pts
If Grigsby is out Leslie by 7 pts.
Pre season polls and opinions are just that and often times are not accurate.

As for the recent uptick in optimism, it’s district time, it’s either show up or shut up and that is exciting. Leslie has been playing good ball lately and although it has not been against good competition it is still good to see them playing well as we roll into district play.

I hope your drive isn’t wasted and the Eagles play good ball.
As always, hope both teams play good and stay injury free.

Johnson is one of the best athletes I've seen in the 14th in a while. I'm sure you're right about that.

We’ll need a big game from Landry Collett and I do not think that there is a person in middlesboro that can guard Hensley.

Here’s my break down of it and what that means for Leslie this coming Friday as they play the Boro.

The game Friday was closer than the score depicted. Breathitt got a late score but this game was manageable for MHS all night.

After watching MHS’s secondary, I have no doubt that LC will be able to have success throwing the ball. Expect a big night for Hensley and Ostrander.

The question for me on offense is will Collett have time to find the open guys down field.

MHS offense looked kind of stale and predictable. I am not sure if they have done it all season but they really like to utilize screens but Breathitt was all over those.

To not have scored Friday, they did not look that bad. They moved the ball but they shot themselves in the foot (multiple bad snaps, a dropped ball downfield that would have possibly been a td).

The question on defense for me is will our dline be able to control the line of scrimmage.

I think LC’s skilled positions are as deep and talented as any other team in the district. I think LC’s oline and dline will be the determining factor.

If LC can control the line of scrimmage, they will win and it won’t be close.

Leslie QB can beat you with his arm or feet. Brady Davidson the big lineman from Leslie will dominate, he maybe most underrated lineman in the mountains.

I'd be surprised if Leslie has anyone better than Grigsby. I thought he was the best player on a regional championship team last year.

You're a comedian..... and not a very good one.

Can't remember the last time I've seen so many people that far off. I was waiting to hear the explanations.
Grigsby with 278 yards rushing and 118 yards passing. The kid took a team to the state semifinals last year and was getting absolutely no respect all week.

Leslie is so much like Clay Co., good QB, nice offense but can't stop anyone.

Did that one cut deep? Lol

C’mon man, Grigsby is good and I get that you think we were disrespecting him but in all reality, we were showing confidence in Hensley (who has the stats to have earned that confidence). Showing confidence in our player does not mean we were disrespecting another player.

Enjoy your win and move on.

Also, the comedian comment was because you compared Grigsby to Tim Couch which is still hilarious.

I didn't compare him. The Middlesboro fan did. Couch is the best high school quarterback I've seen, followed by Freddie Maggard. Grigsby is really good though - probably the best they've had since they won the state in the 90s. Nobody's stats were in the same ballpark as his in that game.
Good luck the rest of the year.
