Let's take the last two years.... and the number of top 150's signed according to Rivals.com
http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewrank.asp
Kentucky
2006 Recruiting Class:
#38 Derrick Jasper
#39 Jodie Meeks
#63 Perry Stevenson
2007 Recruiting Class:
#138 AJ Stewart
Texas AM
2006 Recruiting Class:
#55 Donald Sloan
#59 Bryan Davis
#125 Derrick Roland
2007 Recruiting Class:
#8 DeAndre Jordan
#143 Nathan Walkup
After Jordan, it's pratically even.... isn't recruiting one of the biggest rifts the fans had with Tubby?
This isn't a hate on Billy thread, but I think everyone needs to calm down and lower their expectations....

Yeah, but Gillispie was coaching at Texas A&M not Kentucky. At Kentucky he will be able to recruit much better players.
I really hope he goes to Elizabethtown and gets Pettigrew.

He should, and I hope he does, but it's interesting to look at....
His teams average 76-78 ppg, again he'll need to get it closer to 80 to win a championship IMO...
I was a bigger fan of Mark Few, especially Mike Dantoni (I know that was a long shot), but I am willing to give the man a legit shot.... but people believing he is going to be a worldbeater right away are probably wrong... expectations can put the thumb on something quickly....

Considering what he took over at Texax A&M and did is amazing. His recruiting job there is actually very impressive for where he was at.
He said he sends almost 4,000 text messages a month to recruits so yeah I think that along with the name of Kentucky and the resources given him he will quickly become one of the best recruiters in the country.

Advancement in recruiting should bring an advancement in scoring, which will be critical....

Hey Freak, who do you think he will recruit with the three scholorships availablie?
IMO, I think he will go get Steffon Pettigrew, Jai Lucas, and try to get DeAndre Jordan to come to UK.

You also need to look at his recruiting as an assistant under Bill Self. A lot of people say he was the force behind his recruiting while at Illinois.

Exactly. Illinois landed a Top 10 recruiting class while assisting Bill Self in 2002.
Like alfus mentioned, considering his limitations at the programs he was at, he's a great recruiter and may I add, motivator. He motivated me just listening to him today.

After watching the press conference today I believe he will do fine at Kentucky. He's just a good ole country boy. I Like it!

He probably hasn't heard much about Pettigrew being in Texas, but let's hope someone informs him of his game. I think if he is able to get Jordan to come, we wouldn't need Patterson. I never liked him anyway. I like the 3 you suggested. Regardless though, I think he'll do a great job, not only for next season, but for many seasons to come.

Found this nice thought from the Sporting News and writer Mike DeCourcy on Tubby and UK recruiting...
Kentucky had not signed a McDonald's All-American in the fall signing period since Marvin Stone and Keith Bogans in 1998. Why does that matter, given that Joe Crawford, Rajon Rondo and Randolph Morris all made the game? Because UK was not the first and only choice for these players. Kentucky might be OK going to the second or third option on its list to hire a coach, but it wants to be first in the hearts and minds of whomever it pursues.

Good article I may add!

Pettigew might become an option...
From an interview with Bromley, Gillespie said he hopes Jordan has a "long career in College Station", so I woudln't get my hopes up there....
Lucas will go wherever Patterson goes, and I think that will be Florida....
