Things aren't how they are supposed to be or 4A-5A teams wouldn't play against 1 A teams.

Horrible idea and don't know why either school would want it other than $$$. Hope it doesn't happen.

There are 1a teams that can play with and beat most 4a-5a teams. I donât think Harlan city is one of those though. This will most likely be a slaughter.

Death knell for the Dragons.

Not sure why Harlan County would want this game?

Rumor Has It... Because it cuts down on travel cost for both teams and I am sure both are getting paid very good. With all the state cuts that are taking place, this makes more sense then most people would like to think. Not all teams are as blessed as others with it comes to money and will try anything to stay afloat or save a program.

Interesting move by both parties.
Harlan City risks losing players to the County and getting embarrassed.
Harlan County should beat them handily and if they don't they have a lot of questions to answer, if they get beat somehow there is absolutely no explanation to justify it. Coach Luttrell will not back down though!

This makes the most sense to me. I don't think it's a good idea for either team.
Which side will you be on, hchs fan??

I could see this as a scrimmage event, something that the coaches have more control over and can benefit both teams, have a tailgate party afterwards for the players and fans, but as a regular season game this is a really bad idea.
05-17-2018, 06:53 PM
:why: letâs hope this is a scrimmage harlan independence is not ready for the Black Bears :truestory: but if it does go Dragons
05-17-2018, 07:05 PM
Unless Dragons are up and Bears down this should be a mismatch
05-17-2018, 11:23 PM
this is not going be scrimmage it going be real game in first ever first priority bowl held at Harlan County High School
05-18-2018, 12:33 AM
This is a terrible ideal. If independent loses a couple players there season will be over, and if the bears lose or donât play well and wins. This may play havoc on there season.

Not sure about the thinking of the powers that be from both schools on this idea. A small 1-A school like Harlan Independent certainly couldn't afford any injuries early on. Looks like some rethinking needs to be done considering this idea.

One of most ridiculous things HC could do.
05-18-2018, 07:47 PM
🤔🤔 I just donât get this one
05-24-2018, 08:45 PM
Surprised to see this happen. City will be over-matched a whole heap of a lot. They'll both make 'em some money though.

How about HC keeps it classy and respectable and both schools make a whole lot of money? Would be good for both schools that way especially early in the season. Tune up game, get a lot of kids some game experience.

This is a great event that will take place. Harlan and Harlan Co. Are solid programs and this will be a big boost for Harlan Ind.
You guys act as this is a death sentence for Harlan Ind.
there are many 1A vs 4A in the state that the 1A beats the bigger school.. it will be a great atmosphere!

Absolutely! Look at Beechwood last year, they were a 1A that beat Corbin(a 4A playing 3A), Hazard beat 5A Whitley, 2A Somerset beat 5A North Laurel. 2A Danville beat 4A juggernaut Boyle County and I am sure there some others I am missing off the top of my head just in this area.
Granted these are some quality small
schools but if Harlan County and Harlan Ind. both take this game for what it is, it could be a good money maker for years to come.

Comparing Harlan to Beechwood, Hazard, Somerset, and Danville is absurd.. yes I understand the premise of what youâre saying. But weâre talking about Harlan.. they may make money off a gate, but they also may have players get hurt, lose players because they see how good the crosstown team is, and get the heck beat out of them.

That's why I said if both schools take it for what it is, if you're Harlan County don't beat them to death, get kids playing time in a varsity game early, make money. If you're Harlan Ind, use it as a gate game. Most 1As are never expected to compete with larger schools. The adults would be the ones to have to use common sense, and that honestly might be the downfall. Now if you're Harlan County and want to run up 70 on a score board and accomplish nothing then there is no need to play that game because more times than not the big school will be better.

Again, thats why this should be a scrimmage and not a game.

Scrimmages don't draw much of a gate. Would be a good week 1 tune up game for a school like HC and a bigger gate than a school like Harlan Ind. would have all year.

it's comical that you compare Harlan to Beechwood. Harlan ain't recruiting some of the best talent in Northern Kentucky. if it wasn't for all the sneaky snakes slithering around recruiting 1 A schools should never play 5 A schools.
06-04-2018, 05:14 AM
Harlan isn't like Beechwood in ANY way, I never said they were. I was just coming back that there are many 1A's in the state that beat 4A's.
Off the subject, but most would be shocked to know how much Beechwood doesn't recruit, most Beechwood kids are truly Ft. Mitchell kids. You will have a few occasionally that come up the hill from Ludlow or down from Dixie but most of Beechwoods kids are homegrown in the Spartan youth system, they're at the point where if any thing the name recruits itself. They're nothing like the blatant recruiting that goes on in some other parts of the state.
