Pikeville, KY â The UC Men's Basketball team could never find a rhythm on offense on Friday as they would be eliminated from the Mid-South Conference Tournament Quarterfinals by the sixth-seeded Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College 53-40. The loss puts the Patriots at 21-9 overall on the season.
In the first half, UC would struggle from the field, but would stay in the contest as Lindsey Wilson also would go cold from the floor. LWC would open the game up 12-3 in the first six minutes of the contest, but the Patriots would battle back to trail 12-9 at the first media timeout. In the final 12 minutes of the half, neither team could get their offense kickstarted as the Patriots trailed 21-17 at the break.
The second half was a bit improved for the Patriots, but still struggled especially from beyond the three point line. UC would get the lead down to one four minutes into the second half, but that was the closest they could get in this one. With the score 23-22 LWC, the Blue Raiders would go on an 18-2 run over the next nine minutes of play to open the lead up to 41-24. The Patriots would do everything they could to battle back, cutting the gap back down to 10, but to no avail as the Blue Raiders would come away with the 13 point win.
Leading the way for UC was Will Gary with 13 points and eight rebounds. Eric Duncan chipped in 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists. The Patriots shot just 23.3% from the field and 20% (7-35) in the loss. LWC finished the game at 39.1% from the floor but was outrebounded by UC 46-35.
The Patriots now await to find out if they will be in the 2018 NAIA National Championship Tournament and who their opposition could be. That tournament will be held in Kansas City, Missouri from March 14-20th at Municipal Auditorium.
