BLUEFIELD, Va. – Things got a little too close for comfort, but in the end, No. 15 Union College pulled out the 77-75 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) win over host Bluefield (Va.) on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs up their record to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in league play, while the Rams fall to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the AAC.

Up 37-33 at the intermission, Bluefield appeared to be in control of the game early in the second half. Austin Cummins (SO/Lawrenceburg, Ky.) drained a field goal to tie the game 41-41 with 17:47 remaining. Bluefield and Union tied the game 16 times, but a Dominique Lindsey (SR/Tyrone, Ga.) free throw in the line gave Union a 72-71 edge with 1:37 left to play. Lance Blakely

(JR/Lexington, Ky.) followed with a 3-pointer and a free throw to make it 76-71 with 19 seconds to go.

The Rams came with a vengeance, slicing the deficit with a field goal by Jermiah Jenkins in the final seconds as the Rams trailed by two. Yet, it was too little, too late as Union held on for the 77-75 victory.

Offensively, Blakely paced Union with 19 points to go with his eight rebounds. Lindsey added 13 points and five assists. Seth Cox (JR/Greenfield, Ind.) and K.J. Duronslet (JR/Sacramento, Calif.) hauled in 12 points apiece, and Cummins poured in 10 points.

Jorge Concepcion led Bluefield with 15 points, and Ty'quon Reid knocked in 14.
The Bulldogs managed to win the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Rams 29-27.
