Counties with a Sweet 16 Championship

This is a great article by Mark Story from the Herald-Leader.

I used his list to make this map of the Counties that have a Boys Sweet 16 championship. There are several schools that are now defunct or have been consolidated, but their achievement of winning the state title needs to be recognized. By my count, 37 of the 120 counties have at some point, been home to the State Champions.

excellent article. I look forward to going to the Smithsonian exhibit at Wayland. Also what I would give to be able to go back and watch that 56' tournament

This map shows counties with active schools that have won the Sweet 16. By my county, 24 of the 120 counties are home to an active high school that has won the Boys State Basketball Title.

Several counties have been removed from the other map because the school that won the state championship have either been closed or been consolidated.
Martin, Boyd, Rowan, Bourbon, Woodford, McCracken, Graves, Marshall, Knott, Hopkins, Clark, Bracken & Grant have had schools win the Sweet 16, but are now closed or have been consolidated.

The Ashland High School that won the state titles is not the same as the current Paul G. Blazer high school.
