I thought it was unique, I bet he was wild in college. Anyway, for those who are saying it was pathetic for him to act that way is crazy. If I were a coach and my team was down like that and I thought the ref was making bad calls then I'de light them on fire. What do you have to lose. I like seeing this side of JR and so do the players, it gets them going, and they really needed a kick start. But for people to say it was pathetic for him to act this way is absurd!

I'm not going to bash you for your post.Here is why I thought it was a great move on his behalf.Everyone knows the Eagles have been struggling this season and then came all the problems with the Saturday game against Pikeville in which Starns was not there.Then came Jesse Meeks back to the team after missing most of the season.I don't think Starns wanted all of the attention from it.He is just trying to find a way to salvage what is left of this season and bring his team and school together.I know if I were in his shoes I would do whatever it took to achieve this goal would you not do the same thing if you were a coach and were in the same position?:Thumbs:

No-one is a sore loser. I agree with GURU on this one. IMO. He may have been wild in College. But, he was young then. He is now a school rep. and an adult. He can show his school pride by just being at the game wearing his school pullover. Of course to a KID, painting up would seem cool. But, to other adults....well. Heck just last week he was being bashed and called all kinds of things. NOW this week he is awesome. Hell, he'll get a new contract just for that one win. LOL!

I guess you and guru have no knowledge of what playing sports is all about! A coach's job is to find a way to win and that is what Coach Starns was doing. He made a promise before the game and he stuck to it. Maybe off the wall with painting the body but anything to bring this team together. And by the way it seemed to work pretty good if I can recall. I have heard many instances where coaches shave their heads and other crazy stunts to get their team motivated or playing together. Maybe the LEGEND should take a chance and bring his team together. Well I guess you guys would say he was a great coach then and praise him for every coaching move he makes.

Sounds like to me we have some sore losers on here. I mean playing four games at home in two days and getting blown out in all four. I guess I would try and find something to whine about. I applaud the effort Coach Starns made even if it only works for one game. At least we didn't have adults making cute little "flyers" and leaving them on everyone's vehicle. I think this man is just trying to get along with everyone and do whatever it takes to salvage this season.

Come on now,Bruce Pearl of Tennessee did it a couple of weeks ago when he got painted up orange for the Tennessee women's game and everyone in Tennessee and half the country thought he was a national hero. Lets be honest, if Bill Mike had of done it (instead of Starns) you all would have thought the same thing and would have forever praised him on here. What's the big deal ? This is a side of Starns that nobody has seen before, I kind of like his humbleness in this.

Too many to quote here so I will just say this.
Starns had a reputation, of being a little standoffish. He was strict, and acted the way he felt he should. Then he gets bashed and critisized for being so. He stuck to his guns. And I admired that. Then....all the turmoil festers into what it did. He changed what he stood for and bowed to what everyone else wanted. He let a player that snubbed him and his team and quit, to allow back on the team.
His actions, IMO, were more of a sellout, than a motivation.
We don't have to worry about our coaches doing that...they are way to vain. LOL
Have our coaches allowed players to quit and return...you bet....but they have always done that and didn't just change in midstream to appease some.

I am not a sore loser...I hugged Mike Conley Fri. night and let him know how proud I was of him.....IMO, he played great from the getgo, and the rest of the team fed off him and played inspired ball and took the win!!! That was motivation!!!! Having a coach say he would get painted up if they won, is not motivation.

It was on all Paintsvilles cars too, heck, the next morning they were taped to every business in downtown Paintsville, including the Sheriffs Dept. I bet you also blame the Paintsville fans for them being mailed in Christmas cards to the Central BOE? Right. My vehicle has Paintsville all over it and there was one on my car. And from what I read, none of it was made up and no names were mentioned. Just let it go. This is what they wanted everyone to do, make a big deal out of it. Heck it has all already been in the papers. I took mine from the windshield, read it, chuckled, then tossed it in the trash.
