I navigate between BGR & BGP quite often and enjoy both boards. Recently here I have noticed a large amount of negativity towards Powell football. It's because of these threads that I have decided to post rather than just read and move on.
hh:
It seems that a few players are communicating with a former coach. I don't for sure, but the language suggests this. My two cents; both parties should stop. Teenage boys and disgruntled, immature former parapros are a bad mix.:dontthink
I think it is time for solutions and proactive measures. If you are a Powell football player, find others who are interested in going to the weight room 2/3 days week, say, Mon/Wed. Ask your principal and AD for help. Generate a list of commitments (sign-up sheet) and take it to them. Ask them to provide/find someone (pe teacher, baseball coach, asst. baseball coach, A.D., person with football background/interest) to monitor the weight room for 1 1/2 to 2 hours two days a week. Start with this and post how it initially goes.
Good luck.

Excellent post. I agree. Welcome to BGR. Enjoy your time over here.

I left out the word know. My statement should have been "I don't know for sure" not that "I don't for sure". Sorry about that. Regardless, let's try to help this program get on track. Coaching candidates?

Is there a coaching vacancy?

PC needs to find a stable coach and they need support from the BOE! Also it is my belief that one of the most important things about building a program is getting the community's support. Get those people out to games. They will come if PC will hire a coach that puts a good product on the field.
It also takes money. Believe it or not that might be the most important thing. You have to have good facilities now a days. That will come when the PC BOE decides that they want a winning program.

the new coach will be at powell county saturday 1/27 im not sure where he is from or who he is, when i get mor info i will post, and yeah powell county does need more in the weight room and needs to hurry up and start for next seson, this is getting sad. i would be horrible if they loose the program.

if we can get people in the weightroom and the incoming freshmen to keep playing we wounld be ok. what i heard about this coach is he comes into loose program and turn them into winng program. we may have a pretty good coach

No matter what the coaches record is/was, UNLESS the administration changes and starts to support the coach, it will not change.

Keep us posted if names surface. I "heard" talk of three possible candidates, however I'll wait for something more concrete. Monday, do what I said in my original post, show some drive, some desire to get in the weight room and the placement of a quality coach will happen hopefully sooner than later. Nonetheless, show some fortitude and ambition. Good Luck.

We are starting to get more people in the weightroom. we may have a good running back.

How many are in the weight room? Who is supervising the secession? Is Whitaker taking the job? Stay positive and keep working.

I walked over to football on saturday 1/27, juss to see how things were going with my teammates b/c i dont get to see them much b/c of basketball, and i almost fainted .. i was so excited b/c i seen at least 35 ppl out there ... all of them was busting their butts and i was proud of them .. lets just keep it up and going at powell and get more ppl out .. Coach Rose and the middle school staff is supervising it as well as coach allen and riggs ... they are doing an exellent job and are really pushing the players .. and the players dont complain ne more like last year ... they were having fun listening to music and pumping weights .. As far as Mr. Whitaker taking the job i have no info but it would really be nice to have him in control of powell this year and lead them to their first winning season and keep it up for the little kids that are working hard in the junior leauge .. Like Honest Abe said .. stay positive and keep working

:dontthink The 35 showed up to meet the supposed new coach, Which he was a no-show.
Since, still around 3 to 4 showed up this week. You guys better have a certified teacher present during weight lifting because the 3 people you named are not.
A certified teacher must be present.:dontthink

So, are you saying Mr. Whitaker did not come to Powell Sat.? The reason I'm asking is because someone posted that they met and spoke with him. If he's not the one, then who would be someone good to contact to see if they might be interested? You're still too negative for me, but that's neither here nor there. SP & KW POWELL.

I have had about all of the negativity that I will tolerate in the Powell County threads. Final warning if no one can post anything constructive or offer solutions without getting personal then all of the threads will be closed.

SP & KW POWELL.He was there, But from what I heard he didn't actually meet with the team. How about doing the right thing and letting whomever the new coach may be pick and choose his own staff. Let the head coach interview people interested in assitant coaching jobs and let him decide. You cannot limit a head coach to certain guys who are in the building or in the click. He has got to be able to hire assistants who know football and how to coach the game. A head coach has got to be surrounded by coaches that can help him teach the game the right way, Teach aspects he wants taught and guys he doesn't have to worry about not getting the job done. Look at Bruce's staff, Good guys but that don't win you football games.
Be fair and let the head coach decide who he wants for his staff.
The best head coach in the world is ONLY AS GOOD AS THE ASSISTANTS WHO SURROUND HIM. Great programs have 2 or 3 former head coaches as assistants. Stop picking and choosing who your head coach gets and who he doesn't, Let him decide. You simply cant tell a man " Here's the guys you can have". "They're in the building but they have never coached or played".
Get your head coaches guys who can help him win football games.
If it wasn't about winning , We wouldn't have a scoreboard.
Give whoever takes the job a fair chance and get the guy quality help.

actually the 35 showed up to lift .. they were working hard .. as far as the teacher thingy goes, monroe opened the weightroom for the kids to lift .. but it shouldnt matter as long as the kids are lifting and wanting to get better who cares who is supervising it .. its a whole lot better than 3 ppl lifting supervised .. no Abe your not being negative keep being positive ... good things happen to positive ppl
02-01-2007, 03:50 PM
i've got a solution for powell ... spread the field and throw the ball .. it was the most successful thing last year
02-02-2007, 12:12 AM
Ive got a solution for powell...work hard for your coach...whom ever it might be and good things will come.
