JMO,
But I believe that LL gets the edge here. LL is where the groundwork is laid. The fundamentles of the game , fielding, hitting running bases and etc.
TT, only use kids that already possess these atributes. If not for leagues like LL, The TTs would not be very good, IMO.

Nice post Guru. Do you think that top players are sometimes over looked for the TT because of financial situations? Being a member of a TT isn't cheap.

I love Little League, but I will have to say the traveling AABC makes a better player because you face better talent!

I don't know about that.... LOL.... My "little one" hit (between practice and games) over 20 homeruns this year. IMO... thats pretty good talent!! Smile

**Had to throw that one in**... :lmao:

But you face the best of the best EVERY GAME and not some kid who can barely hit 45 mph. talent wise? No doubt AABC!

traveling baseball gives u far more expirence against much better competition...
#11
usually, traveling ball will allow a player to play more talented teams and face quality pitchers, but it can be stressfull when u have a tournament every week
#12
Well to make it to a big time High School/College/Pros, you need to learn how to handle the stress. The younger the better. Big Time Players will make BIG TIME PLAYS! You see who can play and who cannot.
#13
yep i agree, u have to be able to handle the stress. But just remeber, not all the players are going to be playing college or pro ball. Alot of them will play high school and then their career will end. If a player really wants to become the cream of the crop, they should seek to play the best talent they can find.

thanks for everyones opinions on the subject...My son plays both and he played around 60 games last year until late in July. He loves baseball but it is his second fav. sport. He is now 10 and had the experince of playing in a state championship game against a team who was undefeated and not scored on this past year. We lost to them 6-5. They were a loaded team with all 10 year olds by the new birthday break. Our kids played tough and held their heads high. NOW when he plays LL he has to tone it down some because not all the kids can catch the ball when they are thrown to. He will go to make a double play and the other kid is watching the runner and not moving. YEA this is coachable changes and should be taught. But the level of play is so much higher on TT. LL gives you the basics- agreed... but playing the talent that you get in TT only makes your player better.

I thank you guys for your opinions on this and I can see everyones sides to the discussion.

GREAT POINT!!!! I knew a kid on a travel team and his dad told me that in some of the weekend tournys he could spend 2 or 3 hundred dollars. I agree TT isn't cheap.
#16
No it isn't cheap..That's for sure. But if you want your kid to get noticed at an early age, then the money is well worth it, IMO!
#17
My kid got noticed and he played LL.... LOL... and OH... BTW.... why is it that so many kids who PLAY LL get asked to join travel teams?? During all-stars there must be a "recruitment" going on...... Mine was asked this past year but chose not to do it because of school and football....
#18
IMO, both have their ups and downs, LL takes all players and provides the basics of training. But remember training is limited by the knowledge of the Managing staff. TT provides better talented opposition, therefore developing better talent for handling different situations. Remember for every level you advance only 10% of the players from the previous level advance. Without LL, a lot of ploayers would not be given the opportunity to develop.

Nice post there Blackknight....

Like you said, Alot of Ups and Downs between the 2. But if money is the only down for AABC then it must be a good thing. Does take up alot of time and alot of travel. I will be coaching a traveling AAU baseball team this year.

Ya, i played tt ball for about 3 summers in a row, but i got so burnt out on traveling to western kentucky, tn, and ohio to play tournaments. It can be costly, but the talent level is defitently higher than in little league ball. I was asked by a coach from another all star team to play tt, but i elected to stay on my own and not play with guys from other counties. I think ur high school team will be better if everybody plays on the same tt team and not on seperate traveling teams.

We have the luck of having a AABC/USSSA league plus a LL league around here. If you want you can play other AABC/USSSA teams and never travel more than 30 miles and play 40 games. Like I said myboy played around 60 games or so and we only had to travel to tha state tourney. 1 TIME. Some of our parents never even payed all year. Us as coaches are responsible for spornsorships and donations to help the cost. Our uniforms were 200.00 which included, 3 shirts, 2 pants, 2 socks, belt, cap, helmet, travel bag. ALL other entry fees were paid by the donations and only food was out of pocket, except the travel to the state tourney...... I say it was not bad.... and we are starting again soon. There is now a AABC/USSSA league in the tri-statre area now and it is based in Huntington WV. Get the arms ready and start throwing.....
My son had 100 times more fun on the AABC/USSSA team than he did in LL. There are some kids that still cant catch the ball so you have to tone down your play in LL at times. NOT GOOD for some.!!!

Facing better talent and game experience won't make a better player if they don't get the fundamentals first.
I've seen parents throw kids, that don't know how to play the game, onto traveling teams just to be able to hang with their buddies.
#24
Well then that is the parents fault....hard to be the reason to compare the argument because of a parent's dumb reasoning. But as a coach, if a player isn't good enough, (And most of the time the traveling teams are All-Star caliber type players) then he would sit the bench anyway. But it is easy for little league because you don't have to travel. I think AABC is a step above in talent because you find dedicated parents and players who DOES care and is willing to take there summers up for there boy/girl. And most of the time when you see this happen, not saying all of the time, but you have fathers who dedicate ALOT of there time themselves besides AABC time because they do want there child to be the best and are willing to take that extra step in doing so...But I am a Little League fan..Hell, I am a baseball fan. Any kid playing baseball is taking a step forward as long as they put forth the effort!
