You got the schools right. He was in Corbin Middle School as an 8th grader but actually played for Corbin High School his 8th grade year. At least he played for about a half a season. I think he left Corbin in January that year and transferred to North Laurel. And of course from there to Whitley. I wouldn't be surprised next year to see him at South Laurel or even Knox Central.

Hicks us the coach at the biggest public school in the entire state. There's a big difference there.
Sitting kids because they're trying to earn a scholarship or because they were sick the day before "because that's the way it's always been" won't last much longer.
As I said every coach I've known does the same thing.
It's the same reason Whitley has had about 15 different coaches in the last 20 years. The old school thinking is not going to cut it anymore. Practicing 3 or 4 hours even on Sundays is not going to keep players at small schools.
Before you say it worked for Hicks at Corbin, it was a different world then.
Your right a coach can do what he wants, and he can also lose his job after one or two bad years as well.

I don't get what the big deal is. From what I understand his only punishment t was not starting the one game and I heard he played just as much as he normally would. Sounds pretty fair of the coach to me

He came in the game with a little over 2 minutes left in the first period, a little more than not starting...He plays every minute of every game unless he is in foul trouble...Kids should not be punished for injuries, sickness, or something like this...JMO...

This could be the reason Whitley County has such a hard time building a boys basketball program that can compete for regional championships. Every time little Johnny has to set for more than 5 minutes parents and/ or fans want to start a drive to fire the coach. I wouldn't know the WCHS coach from a lad of coal but getting on a message board and talking about firing the coach is no way to build a program.

My opinion is he made the choice to leave his team high and dry during practicing for a big district basketball game. I do see why he made the choice and dont blame him but I dont see why anybody would have an issue with not starting him.

Im not trying to build a program. Im a casual fan.
I don't have any little johnnies playing basketball and ive never known basketball to be important enough to require parents getting mad at Whitley.

There is not enough bandwidth on the entire internet for me to type out all of the problems that is basketball at Whitley. They've never been solved. I do however know you obviously have no clue either. Its much more deep than a simple coaching problem or parent problem.
Ive been around the program my entire life except for the past 7 or 8 years and I watch the same thing over and over. Personally, I don't care if it gets better or not, but its a sports message board. Its kind of what they are made for.

And I haven't said anything about a coach. I said IF (because I don't know the situation) he was sit simply for practicing and playing in a bowl game, then its not right so we'll have to agree to disagree. If he was sit for something else, good for the coach. As I said, I really couldn't care less. State titles are all that matters and nobody is winning any of those in this region.

Ill go ahead and close this thread. This game was played weeks ago.
