We all know that the Yankees (North/Union) & the Rebels (South/Confederacy) fought each other in the American Civil War. And we also know the South lost. But that doesn't mean that the CSA aren't part of U.S. History.

Yes, Slavery was/is wrong. But the CSA stood up for what they believe in. Their way of thinking was wrong, but they did what they felt was right at the time. There's a lot to be said for what the CSA did. And by all intents and purposes, the CSA had the right to do what they did. The United States of America is a free nation, their secession , although was not right, was allowable.

I'm gonna screenshot this and share it all over the internet. Almost too stupid to believe that some people think this way.

I did. A Yankee can mean many different things, not just a northerner during the Civil War. You may be the only person craziest enough to make this analogy. Whe have people used the New York Yankees logo to justify hatred so extreme they've killed? How many people are hurt and offended by the New York Yankees logo? How many state houses fly the New York Yankees logo? The Yankee symbol has Uncle Sam's hat on a bat with a baseball. How would that be offensive to anyone when it has mothing to do with a belief?

Come on people its a flag. The Rebel flag didnt make that sicko murder those people in Charleston now did it. It was the symbol for the CSA. People forget that the Civil war wasn't just about slavery. It was also about a states right to decide matter for themselves without the federal government telling them what they could and couldn't do. This flag is a very important part of this nations history. In a war that pitted brother against brother and devided a nation. Banning the stars and bars would be a disgrace to the history of our nation.
Some of the things that sent us into civil war are happening again with the federal government dictating to states this is what your going to do. Even after the people of that state had voted and said no we aren't going to allow this, but the government says oh yes youwill. So I guess I want that rainbow flag banned cause I sure as hell dont agree with it or what it stands for. But our constitution says that everyone has the right to free speech and flying a flag of your choosing is you right, weather you or I agree with what it stands for.

^ Please enlighten me since you seem to say it was about State rights, what those states wanted the "right" to do?

Nobody is banning the flag from personal use, so you can still fly it all you want. The issue was should a state fly it at their state capital? And yes apparently to a degree that flag inspired and was unfortunately used in the justification of killing those 9 people.

Bull crap. That flag was in a pic with that psycho. By that reasoning we should go back to every killers history and ban everything that was in their pics. People want to blame or say this person was inspired by an object, thats just a load of bull. Want to blame someone or something, blame the parents for raising a nutjob, blame the way parents arent allowed to be parents anymore, but to say a flag had anything to do with it is just a load of big stinky crap.

^ The flag inspires hatred of African Americans in many people. To many it stands for a time when black people had no rights or say about what took place in this country. People love to say that flag is about heritage, and I agree to an extent, because the heritage is unfortunately the oppression of black people.

The flag never stood for anything to do with blacks rights. What people used it for after its intended use is a different story. People are just looking for an excuse to act like a bunch of idiots and this is just one of them. If we put a ban on everything that reminds us of bad times then we would have nothing. Plus I can assure you that there is nobody, not one person alive today that was alive during the time this flag was used during its intended use. Also I dont see any slaves or slave owners walking around these days either. Its just another excuse instead of fixing the real actual problems.

lol, really the flag never stood for the system of oppression of African Americans? The states seceded because they were fearful Lincoln would abolish slavery. Simple as that, but thanks for reassuring me that nobody from the 1860s is still alive, I'd been wondering. Guess when all the Jewish people from the WW2 generation die then Hitler can be celebrated with no worries right?

We shouldn't be flying anything at government properties or buildings. The United States Capitol in Washington D.C. is the only place where it is actually required there be a flag in my book.

EVERY politician and state department should have to work out of a 12 foot trailer with a phone and computer. Have you seen the government buildings these days? There usually the biggest buildings in every town. That's absurd and a waste of money. Hell, you can hold a court meeting under a tent as far as that goes. In a trillions deficit, we need to rethink what we bitch about in this country. A flag is not one of them. Spending millions of tax payer dollars for statues of dead people from either side is plain stupid. Jefferson Davis statue- STUPID. Abraham Lincoln statue-STUPID. Let a museum pay for them and put them up if they are that important. We have books if you want to see them. We should take those federal buildings and turn them into schools. Go into Williamsburg. There is no reason for that monstrous judicial center other than a look what I have thinking. Theres a courthouse right across the street with empty rooms and could have been added onto.

If you want to end this non stop bitching and moaning about stupid stuff, strip all government properties of everything. And I mean everything from the wall papers to a flag in the front. Its a waste of tax money.

I won't stoop to apologizing for the Confederate Flag. I offer no apologies whatsoever. History is what it is and not even the revisionists in the media, government schools, and courts well change anything. Blacks and their suck ups pimping for their votes would be better served to get off their fat butts and make an effort to better their financial and social situation. In the end, whiners are just whiners. If they don't like it here, they can leave. We really don't need them.

It makes it really hard to understand what the whining is about. All you hear on the news is how hard it is to be black and how they outted that idiot white woman who pretty much changed herself to black. I got news for them. Life sucks for everyone. Everyone at some point is discriminated against. The reason whites often have better jobs is that they make up 99% of the population in places like this state. Its a question of when does it end. Are blacks always going to be mad about a flag? Are Indians, fake and real, going to be mad about a mascot name? Are latinos always going to be mad we deport there people?

Just quit the bitching already, go to work, come home, feed your kids, pray to GOD you see another day, and live. I may have just given you the secret to life.

^^^ I honestly could care less if the flag is flown, but to hear people cry and whine because something reminded their great great great great uncle of a bad time in life and to use that as an excuse for acting like idiots is just ridiculous. And for this.guy to act like the flag stood for slavery blah blah blah is just as bad.

The flag was the flag that they fought under correct? What were they fighting so hard for? The answer is the right to own slaves plain and simple. In the declarations of secession several states flat out mentioned slavery as a reason for seceding. Mississippi for one had the following in their declaration:

"our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery- the greatest material interest of the world....a blow at slavery is a blow at civilization and commerce"

Texas? "We hold as undeniable truths that the governments of various states, and of the confederacy itself were established exclusively by the white race, for themselves and their posterity; that the African race had no agency in their establishment, they were rightfully held and regarded as an inferior and dependent race, and in that condition only could their existence in this country be rendered beneficial or tolerable"

People fighting this war for the south under that flag knew exactly what was at stake, and that the abolitionist movement was on the rise.

If your going to talk about why the civil war started atleast get your facts straight. It was mainly over the republicans not wanting slavery expanded in the territory's that wasn't yet states. It really had nothing to do with states that already had it. It was the fact that someone in Washington DC was going to tell people you cant do this or that.

Point of the matter is a much as people like you want to cry out how bad the stars and bars is. It still part of our history and should be left up to each and every state to decide if it will be flown over state grounds. Just like the state of Mississippi did when it was put to a vote. Let the people decide for themselves.

Wrong. Also please tell me what the "this or that" is. Just because something is part of history doesn't mean it needs to be celebrated. A wrong is a wrong, no matter when it happened.
