Where is Timmy Dalton?
#1
Watching the game on TV vs. Buckhorn and he's still not on the floor or on the bench.
#2
Heard it was grades.
#3
He has recently tweeted

"LC needs Coach Josh Cook"

Sounds like more than grades.

He left the team. Quit. End of story. That's all there is to it. There is more to it, but it's not to be shared over a message board. He had a choice, he made it. Grades were an issue. Rule were too.

Huge setback for Lawrence. There went the dream of the first region winning basketball team at the school. Wonder how this bodes at home between him and his brother Robert who is a senior on the team? Wish the kid good luck, hope he sticks to football. From what I hear thats really his sport.

Robert's a Junior.

Sorry, I was told by someone from Lawrence that he was a senior. Does Robert play football too?

Is he still at LC or did he go back across the river?

If Mr. Dalton wasn’t getting to play because he wasn’t making the grades then the coach did the right thing. Grades has to be first no matter who or how good that person might or might not be. If he wasn’t following the team rules then kudo’s again for the coach once again no matter who or how good a player is they should be treated the same as everyone else on the team. This has been a problem in years past at LC and not just in one sport. If these kids are not getting the proper guidance and support either from the coach or more importantly their parents then they will not be successful in life as a whole. I have heard that this young man is struggling with his academics and he has left the team to focus on his grades so he can be a complete player. If this is true then that should speck volume to his maturity and he will be a much better for it. In any sport he wants to play as we all know this kid could have a great chance to play at the next level but only if the grades are there. As for any person that plays high school sports no grades no offers will come I can almost promise that.

I am glad to see that the young man and his coach know their priorities here. Seems anymore that the "student" part of "student-athlete" is a thing of the past. But if he really did step away from the game to focus on his academics or the coach told him not to come back until his grades were in order, it is a very honorable thing to do and nobody should condemn either one of them for that. School comes first.

Should have had a question mark.

Too bad that isn't the case here....

His issue is definitely with grades. Kid wouldn't even show up for class but would for practice. 3 F's is what I'm told. If anyone says otherwise they are misinformed or trying to cover it up.

All of the coaches at LC are committed to STUDENT-athletes. All teams must adhere to an individual gpa and attendance policy. If you are the very best player in the entire universe you still are required to attend school on a regular basis and maintain a certain gpa. The taxpayers expect a return on their investment. They do not pay those high board of education salaries for sports. That is why it is called the Board of Education not the Board of Sports. The worker bees (teachers, bus drivers, cooks, janitors, etc.) would love to see a small fraction of what is spent on athletic endeavors go towards their paychecks. People say sports build character but it is TEACHER- coaches who build character by educating STUDENT-athletes to become productive members of society. Any player, coach, parent or fan that is only interested in the win column has no business being involved in high school sports.

You do realize that about 90% of everything spent sports-related is generated by the sports teams through ticket sales (mainly football) and private fundraising. Right? People have this sick, twisted belief that when teams go on overnight trips and get new uniforms and such that the board of ed is paying for them. At the high school level, that's just not true at LCHS.

But I do agree, STUDENT is before the athlete. But sports is a major part of learning. For some students, sports is the only way they will get a chance to go to college.

Each sport receives a budgeted amount of money from the taxpayers i.e. the board of ed. Now an issue comes up, such as concussions in football. They were allocating $100.00 per helmet but now its $300.00 per helmet. They have a life span of 5 years. This is not handled by the QB Club. I do not think that anybody in Lawrence County has a "sick, twisted belief" about anything involving any LC sport.

I don't know about Lawrence Co, but my sports account starts with 0 dollars aside from gates and fund raising from previous seasons... and that's if I'm lucky enough to come out ahead on the year due to poor attendance.

I have no dog in the fight but with all the frequent news and data about concussions they may be opting to invest in the newer concussion style helmets which in fact are close to $300.
