Ouch. Clay and South do play each other later so somebody will get a win. Screen door defense tonight for the Tigers.

looks like another long season for the Tigers.

Some big plays in offense, check.
Looking like they didn't even practice defense, check.
Undisciplined stupid penalties and uncalled for personal fouls, check.
Looks like much hasn't changed for us, I honestly thought this was one of the ones we should win.

Accurate assessment. I agree on all points.

Clay will get better. On the radio it sounded competitive for 3 quarters so that's a plus. I looked at Clays roster and see nothing but sophomores and freshman. That's another good thing. Defense has to get better or their just gonna have to try to win in shootouts. Nowhere to go but up. Which I take nothing away from Rowan County. Known Ray Graham for years and I'm sure he had his team ready for fhis one.

How does Clay stack up against Harlan County this week? Both teams need a win.

To the best of my knowledge we didn't force a single punt, also too much chuck and duck on offense no way to control the clock with the ground game if your defense is that bad then you better be able to keep it off the field.

I think Rowan scored on every possession. Defense worked like a sieve. Linebackers CANNOT play on their heels, very few times did I see them step up to fill a hole. Two of the linebackers have not played in a year, hopefully after seeing film they realize their mistakes and get that shored up. Fields led the team in tackles as a freshman (at DE) but didn't play as a sophomore, he may be better suited on the line of scrimmage. DL did get some push, but didn't react very well. I'm sure we'll see improvement. I will say this, I think Rowan was much better than most predicted.
Offensively, not bad. One thing is certain, we have a very good QB and some guys that can catch it. The ground game and pass protection must improve or our offense won't be able to withstand the pressure.

Harlan Co played a much better team in Southwestern but with both games being so lopsided its hard to get any read at all on either team. This is one of the three games thats winnable for Clay, West Jessamine and South Laurel the other two. With this game being at Harlan Co, I will say Harlan Co. 36 Clay Co 28

Clay County's defense was really bad. No adjustments at all. Rowan Co scored 7 times on only 3 different plays. Clay just watched them. If they had played ANY defense at all they should have won this game.
And Clay does have a great QB but if you are 1st and 10 from the 11 why do you throw it 4 STRAIGHT TIMES and turn the ball over on downs?! This was a case of Clay County losing the game more that Rowan won.

Clays QB is a good athlete. The problem is they came out with the chuck and duck mentality from the get go, no intermediate passing game, very little screen game, and a few counters and traps. Looked like a third grade offensive game plan. I can't really criticize the defense, I gave up on that years ago.

If you put up 400 yards of offense I would say that was a pretty decent game plan. Don't give up 460 though. Should have run the football on 1st and 10 on the 11 though. But a young coach has to learn. Clay will be fine in a few years.

I do think we will get better........but if we don't start running the ball and the o-line giving Sexton a little time to pass......we won't win 1 game this year. Our Defense hasn't stopped anyone as long as I can remember so I have gave up on that.

The attitude/excuse of clay will be better in a few years is killing our program, we should be good now. Heard the same thing for the past decade. With the talent we've had and kids quitting the team we should be competitive each and every season. Still think we should beat Harlan next Friday, their defense is almost as bad as ours and I think Alvares and Sizemore will run it all night long if their number is called.

Don't hold your breath on that one. We will revisit Friday night.
