Final.

This thread was moved earlier due to several users request.
It was getting a little out of hand, and several members let there emotions get the best of them which is understandable after a season comes to a close.

Lets get it back on track with this one and try to stay on topic of the game.

I agree 100%, this thread was out of hand. Fellow Briar Jumpers we are better than this!!!

Great team, both team fought their guts out. It is a shame that either team had to lose this game.

Both teams made enough mistakes to lose this game and enough plays to win it.

Please don't anyone say that one team wanted it more or wouldn't be denied...this game was as evenly matched as could be.

Congrats to NCC and good luck this week. I have friends on both sides of the 2A final and would like to see both of them happy...but that can't happen.

Congrats to Jumpers on a great season. Way to hang tough when it would have been easy to give up.

Somerset had a great postseason run this year. The Jumpers beat 3 teams on the road before falling on the road by a lone point. Great season by the Jumpers!

Tough loss for the Jumpers. Congratulations on a great season and gritty playoff run. Jumpers lost 5 games total and 3 of them to teams in the state championship games this weekend. Good luck to all the teams that made the finals.

Congrats to the Jumpers on a GREAT season! You guys should be proud of your outstanding efforts for the rest of your lives. Dont ever let people who have nothing better to do say anything negative about your tremendous season. Runitupthegut, you are right. This thread is much better than the last.

In their history, Somerset has won 5 state semi-final games:

1978: Somerset – 40 Pikeville – 8
1981: Somerset – 10 Prestonsburg – 0
1983: Somerset – 8 Newport Catholic – 7
1988: Somerset – 23 Danville – 9
2009: Somerset – 28 Sheldon Clark - 12

They also now have lost 11 state semi-final games:

1959: Henderson City - 40 Somerset - 0
1984: Newport Catholic – 17 Somerset - 0
1987: Danville - 28 Somerset - 7
1989: Danville – 28 Somerset - 7
1999: Hancock County – 47 Somerset - 20
2005: Newport Catholic – 35 Somerset - 10
2006: Newport Catholic – 40 Somerset - 24
2010: Belfry – 28 Somerset - 23
2011: Covington Holy Cross – 48 Somerset - 14
2012: Newport Catholic – 27 Somerset - 18
2013: Newport Catholic – 49 Somerset – 48 (2OT)

In other words, in all of Somerset's semi-final victories, they have allowed only ONE of their opponents to score in double digits (Sheldon Clark scored 12 in '09). In their five semi-final victories, the Jumpers have allowed an AVERAGE of 7.2 points per game.

However, Somerset has scored in double-digits SEVEN times in their state semi-final appearances and still lost. And in their 11 semi-final losses combined, the Jumpers have surrendered an AVERAGE of 35.5 points per game.

Defense: it wins championships.

Somerset coaching staff did a heck of job keeping this team together after major injuries and a brutal schedule, to get as far as they did and coming within 1 point from winning 5 playoff games on the road and playing Saturday in BG is remarkable! Good luck next season From JCHS General Nation!
