I was told the field had a lot to do with the game. Central folks said it was like a plowed field. Their QB was hurt for the 2nd year in a row. What's the story? I'm not too worried because both teams have to play on the same field, but it could slow us down a little. Luckily, our team is very balanced and should be able to adjust. They certainly got our attention after last weeks game. Most thought Central would roll, but Graves is no cupcake, no matter what computer says they are. They are playing for their 1st regional title in school history and they should be very proud. They are a dangerous team that we will not overlook. I will amend my 1st prediction and say Bowling Green 35-10.
As mentioned in my previous post, I personally didn't see their field as a problem, but I wasn't playing on it. Looked fine from my vantage point and fine when I walked across it.
As for Chris's injury, that was a fluke. Definitely nothing to do with the field. I just joke that the place has it in for him, since he got a foot injury this time and a broken arm last year.
It should speak volumes to everyone though that Central managed to stay in that game (never trailing in regulation) and lose by just 1 despite playing a backup QB in all but the first series - a guy that pretty much never saw the field all year unless the game was waaaaay over. Central apparently intended to run a lot of their option attack, and gained 40 yards on the first play from scrimmage running that, a QB run where Chris got injured. After he gutted out 5 more plays and they turned it over on downs, he was out, and they had to revert to the base Wing-T package for the backup. After halftime the Graves County coaches figured out how to shut the Dragons down entirely from that set, and they did absolutely nothing offensively until their last possession where they gained two first downs. Even in the OTs they gained very little, scoring on one play from 5 yards after gaining 5 yards on the first three downs and another from 10 yards after gaining nothing on the first two downs. Losing their QB had everything to do with the result, not the field. Their lack of depth finally came back to haunt them (thank you Warren County Public Schools).
Finally, as to this game, Graves County can at least present some problems for Bowling Green as compared to what Central would have brought. They have a better passing game and run the spread behind a good sized offensive line. Against Central, BG would have been able to stack the box as usual, and get pressure on the QB immediately. That may not come as easily here. I expect Graves to get at least two scores. But offensively I think Bowling Green will annihilate them. Graves simply won't be able to score enough.

Ah the Snappy Tomatoe. That'd be my stop if not for the fact for being Parked just behind the south endzone for Raceland/Pikeville. We did some significant damage at that place when we went to team camp in Mayfiled my Freshman year.
As for the game. BG is too much for anyone in 5A.

They have great sandwiches as well. I know most people get the bar but the sandwiches are really good.

It has already stopped raining in Paducah. It may start again, but so far the ground is still hard. I don't see too much out there on the radar. We basically just got a gentle rain. Things may be different tomorrow.
As I recall Graves' field has a pretty high crown.

That's what Bowling Green has done all year. Their defense is very good, but not the defensive monster we had in 2011. Their offense is so good that the defense only needs a couple of stops a game, because they very seldom have to punt. I'd like to know how many punts we have had this year. We have played some very good teams this year and the defense always steps up when needed. If Blackman Tn., Mccallie Tn. and St. X Ican't stop the Purples, I don't think Graves County will. t's the best offensive unit that has ever played at Bowling Green High and one of the best I've ever seen. Graves County might score a few points, but the Purples will score many more.

Personally, AP, I feel like the 2012 defense was better than this one too. You had Gonsalves, an entire senior defensive line, and Griffith (young and old) before they left to Boone.
But I agree with you. Why would Graves County be able to stop BG if X, Blackman, and for that matter WC couldn't?

The only things that could make it interesting for Graves tonight is home field and wet conditions. Wet conditions seem to make for lower scoring games, which would favor Graves, so turnovers would be the key tonight. Its still doubtful that Graves will pull the win, so even with lots of turnovers everything would have to fall into place for Graves to pull it off.

You may be right. Last year there was a ton of holes to fill on both sides of the ball. That defense really stepped up. I guess for me, it's the defensive backfield that has stepped up this year. There will be lots and lots of holes to fill next year, but I like our chances.

They get mentioned every time the Cardinals get in the Red Zone by the announcer, which is several times a game. On every Friday night you"ll hear "The Mayfield Cardinals have just entered the Arby's Red Zone." I did laugh pretty hard when I realized you had forgotten to give them an endorsement.
