BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Running back JJ Jude was named the adidas OVC Newcomer of the Week following his performance in the Eastern Kentucky University football team's 56-24 win at Morehead State on Saturday.

Jude carried the ball 33 times for a conference season-high 195 yards. The redshirt freshman's four rushing touchdowns tied the EKU single-game record which was last reached by Mark Dunn against Southeast Missouri on Oct. 22, 2005.

The native of Hagerhill, Ky., averaged 5.9 yards per carry on his 33 carries, after only having 19 total carries in the first three games of the season. Jude scored the first two touchdowns of the game in the first quarter, added a second quarter 11-yard run and the final score came on a 17-yard scamper early in the fourth quarter.

The other weekly award winners were Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (Offensive), Tennessee State defensive tackle Samquan Evans (Defensive) and Tennessee State kicker Jamin Godfrey (Specialist).

Eastern Kentucky (2-2) opens Ohio Valley Conference play next Saturday, Sept. 28 at defending league champion Eastern Illinois. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.

Congrats JJ. This kid will have some impressive stats by the end of his career.

IMO, he ends up at a major D1 school his junior year. I hope in blue.

Always been a fan of JJ. Kid plays hard. Leaves it all on the field.

I think he will play all four years for the Colonels. Why would he leave?

He's already redshirted for the Colonels. If he transferred he'd lose a year.

I will never forget his performance his senior year against Knox Central. We had a great defense and he put 300 yards on us like it was fun. And also played defense and had several big tackles for loss.

I got to meet him at UK Friday night lights camp and talk to him about his training approach. He was humble but openly shared the work he does running and lifting - amazing. I wish other young men in our area could see you don't need steroids if you are willing to log the hours in the gym and on the field.

Congratulations to a great athlete who is representing the mountains like a true champion.

Agreed...stay loyal to the university that recruited you! EKU is a great fit. Wish him nothing but the best as a Colonel.

I'd tell UK to pound salt if they came calling. They should have recruited him when they had the chance!

I didn't even think of that. :HitWall:

I met the kid a few years back, and as someone else said he is very humble. Great kid. Would love to have a team of JJ's. Huge fan. Wish him the very best in anything he does.

Really happy for this young man. So many times you see kids go to school and not get to play the position that they excelled at in high school. J.J. has worked his tail off and the hard work paid off big time for him. Hoping he has continued success at E.K.U. for the rest of his career there.

It's always good to see kids from Kentucky do well at the next level. Congrats to him.
