Last night in the Eastern Kentucky 52-24 win over Morehead State the Colonels ran a play that I had never seen before. Jordan Berry, the EKU punter, took the snap and kicked a rugby style kick to EKU gunner Trey Thomas. Since Thomas was behind the line of scrimmage he was allowed to advance the ball--which he did for a first down. My son is the long snapper and he says that they've practiced this over the two seasons that he's been there but never tried it in a game before last night. Pretty slick play, I'd like to see it on ESPN.

Would the replay booth, if one existed in this game, confirm the receiver had possession behind the line of scrimmage? It's a pig hair either way.
Regardless, a cool play and glad it worked for them to get the first. Continued success to your son and his journey at Eastern.

I'm not sure. It was very close to the line of scrimmage. The punter is Australian and grew up playing Australian Rules Football. He can kick right or left footed and rugby style or regular. He's got a really good shot of making it into the NFL. Funny guy too.

It was one of the coolest plays I've ever seen I still don't believe it happened lol.
Replay booth and rule book should be used on this one though. Great play not trying to take anything away as the game was already won but still.

It is legal by rule. The only question is whether he first touched it behind the lounge of scrimmage or not. After watching it a few times it looks like he jumps, touches it behind the line of scrimmage, then lands right on or past the line. I think since first touching occurred behind the line it would be okay.

I fixed the video for you walt.
Under the "go advanced" tab below, click on the youtube icon (sometimes you can see the icon, sometimes you cant, most of the time its just an X, but if you hover over it, it say youtube) After clicking that, name your video anything you want in the prompt that pops up. After that, inset the URL inside the quotes, but make sure you only add the part of the URL AFTER the = sign. If you enter http://www.youtube.cm/watch?v=-a23JuEeit...e=youtu.be it WONT work. Only Enter -a23JuEeitY&feature=youtu.be

Just in practice. I think they ran it last night because they had enough of a lead that it wouldn't hurt them too bad but if it worked it would give Eastern Illinois something to have to prepare for.
