Just got back from the game.
I don't know any of the Hazard players' names, but their QB #7 had a great game. He threw a beautiful TD pass on the run: one of the best I've ever seen. Hazard's #32 at LB had a dominating game against the JV and Freshmen, and played well against our varsity.
Ryan played a great game. He tripped a couple of times late on pass plays from the gun, but on 3rd and long he tucked the ball and ran for a great TD. The series before he scampered 30y downfield on an option before pitching to Corey who ran the rest of the way (best option I've ever seen in HS football). Maydo ran well tonight, as did Chaps and Phil. The D was impressive as always. The big story, IMO, was the line. They did MUCH better tonight than they did last week. Ryan rarely had much pressure in the pocket, and we were only caught in the backfield a couple of times. They were much quicker off the snap and very aggressive. My hat goes off to Willbur, Hoss, Butter Bean, and the rest of the OLine (sorry I don't know the other guys, but you all played a GREAT game). Phil had a couple nice runs, and played solid D, as did Maydo. Buddy Row and Heath had the 2 big hits on the night for us. Chad and Shawn both caught TD passes as I recall. A very solid game all around from the whole team. I was really proud of how they played tonight against what appeared to be a solid if slightly outmatched Hazard team. My hat's off to them too, for playing very well. I didn't bother to keep score, but I think we scored 6 to their 2, all scores coming off of big plays.
I'm really gonna miss not getting to watch them in the regular season (shift change at work). Look out NCC, you're comin' to Pirate Town!
EDIT: Now that I think about it, Hazard might have scored 2 more times. I remember a TD being called back but they may have scored on that drive anyway... I can't remember, and I didn't take notes or anything.

How did Andrew Elkins play?
Did Dustin May run from the FB position or HB? Same question for Hickman?
Did any of the sophomores (i.e. Corey Coleman, Charlie Dotson, Ivan Lee, etc.) step up and play well?
What looks to be the best backfield combo we can put on the field?
Finally, did any of the freshman look particularly well when it was their time to play?
And if you can answer all of my questions you are a very good man or woman!!!

I don't know Andrew Elkins, sorry, I just don't know all the kids. Maydo played FB, Phil HB. I think Coleman is the other LB next to Maydo, and he played great D. Coleman and Heath both ran well when the JV went in, so did Ivan. Ivan ran for a TD against a mix of Hazard's starting and 2nd string D. He's faster than I initially thought once he gets going, but his size limits his acceleration. As a bonus though, it limits his DEceleration too. He was impossible to stop when he got moving.
The best backfield we can field is Maydo at FB, and Corey and Phil at the HBs, though in this offense any of them could play any position. Heath and Corey Coleman come in a close tie for 4th at HB. I expect them both to break 500 this year as backups (and Ivan wouldn't surprise me to do so)! This year's team doesn't have a Matt, Doug, or David, but we don't have any weaknesses that I can see either, and sometimes that's more important than having a standout player. Sure, Chapman is going to break out and lead the pack, but he's a senior, and he's got a drive to work hard, play hard, and win big.
IIRC the freshmen almost scored against Hazard's JV D, and even though the freshmen were outmatched by kids a year or 2 older than them, they still held tough and never gave up. All the QBs looked confident, none of them made any glaring mistakes that I could see. I wouldn't be surprised to see Belfry bringing back state championships for ages to come.

#7 IIRC, no idea on names. I do well enough to know half of OUR kids names much less other teams.
Other than Dials from SC, and there's just something about the way that kid plays football that's inspirational to me.

I also noticed g epling #18 at right halfback. I think would make a great asset to the backfield for belfry. As everyone knows speed KILLES in all sportes and this kid is fast. The young man
needs experience! Belfry o-line and d-line looked good at hazard. Couch has moved chapeman from safty to cb and epling from cb to safty with both boys learning the new spots, so secondary on defense looked a little weak. Belfry will have another great season.... go belfry

Yeah, if G were as big as his heart he'd weight a ton. That kid refuses to quit. I've watched the boy attack a pair of pulling linemen, bowl through them, and trip the RB up. I'd like to see what he can do at RB too. Isn't he a 3rd year starter on D? TBH I've gotten so used to him and Devin playing defense that I'd forgotten they can play both ways 8 P
