Moments after pointing out that, when it comes the Steelersâ desire to reduce the cap number of linebacker James Harrison, itâs not as easy as it was with other Pittsburgh players, a report emerged demonstrating just how hard it can be.
According to Mike Garafolo of USA Today, the Steelers are on the verge of releasing Harrison.
With other teams jettisoning players in advance of the start of the three-day tampering window, the Steelers have no such urgency because the Steelers most likely wonât be chasing big-money free agents. For the Steelers, the challenge is simply to create enough cap space to go about business the way they always have â methodical, conservative, building from within not without.
Either way, it looks like theyâll soon be without Harrison.

Looks like Steelers will be down this year trying to below the cap. They will be back in a year or two with a couple of good draft picks. I'm not too upset, they need a high draft pick. A lot of years with picks in the 20's and 30's is starting to catch up.

Harrison would fit in well to the Ravens defense, more so than the Steelers defense.
Had Harrison been rushing the passer with this years Ravens Defense, im not sure anybody would have scored on them. It just wasnt fnacially possible with the cap.
Everyone know my long standing hatred for the Aluminum Curtain but ive always been a fan of Harrison, the one and only Steeler ive ever been a fan of.
I would love to see him in a Ravens uniform, but the Steelers would keep or trade Harrison before they ever released him knowing he would go to an interdivision team like the Ravens.
What are the real possibilities for Harrison if he ends up in FA?

Harrison is getting long in the tooth. The NFL salary cap makes it impossible to hold on to veterans. The Steelers have very seldom spent money on free agents and their cap problems limit their ability to do so now. 6-2 Black and Gold over Liberace purple wearing crows.

He's in Cincinnati for a visit with the Bengals. I'm standing outside PBS to ram his car and break his legs to make sure the Bengals don't make the mistake of signing him!!! That is a headache we DO NOT NEED!
