Who has the worst/ Most intimidating visitors lockerroom in the 14th reigon??

Thoughts???

I don't know if they've made any improvements in the last few years but Hazard's Memorial Gym visitor's locker room used to have sewer backed up and the smell would just about suffocate you. It was hard to think about X's and O's when the highlight of your thought processes was an oxygen mask. But it's an old gym and I suppose they do the best they can do with what they have. If I were Hazard High I would give serious thought about constructing a new gym in a better location. Memorial is outdated. But all a majority of them talk about is the "tradition" and the memories. They live in the past. The Bulldogs need a new facility, one that has parking where fans don't have to park at the foot of a hill and hike up steep terrain to get to the building. One that seats more than 2400 people (that might serve their needs during regular season but not when they host the regional tournament).

Hazard is almost the center of the region and the location is good for the regional tournament. But as of now the best facility in Perry to have tournaments is Perry Central. And since locker rooms is what this thread is about (I got a little off topic), -----PCC has ok locker rooms too, lol.

A high school that only has 300 students is not allowed to build a gym that big!

Yes. If they want to stay in the regional tournament rotation.

But I agree with you that the Hazard school district is too small for a gym the size of Perry Central's. They need a new gym that seats about 2,000 built somewhere in a nice location, preferably close to their high school. Their present gym is outdated and too small for hosting a regional tournament. Of course, a new gym of that size would eliminate them as a regional tournament host, but at least Perry Countians would still have a turn in the rotation when it is held at PCC. I think gyms should seat at least 3,000+ to be able to host the region. Letcher Central's gym is probably too small. I was told by a local person there that their gym seated 2,700. The only gym's that should host the region are Knott Central (5,000), Perry Central (4,500), Powell County (3,500), and Breathitt County (3,000). Just my opinion.

But none of this has anything to do with locker rooms, Lol. Sorry I got off the subject, but one topic or answer sometimes morphs into another discussion.

I have never heard of such a rule where does that come from if it is a rule. Hazard does need a new gym it seems it would be an issue for community pride. Personally I would like to see them get one it would be good for the whole region. Athletics build character. Brother Cecil.

There is no sch rule.

Wburg has less kids than Hazard and there gym will seat a crap load. They have the pull out bleachers on the top.

Hazard! Not scary, just old locker room.

I like Memorial gym myself.
The lockerrooms could use some maintenance though.

I love Memorial Gym.... Love it

BUT...

It's time for a new one....

Don't want this to come cross the wrong way but Hazard has been winning in Basketball since 1929, and year in and year out they are at the top of the 14th region... But Hazard Football has just became a powerhouse in Class A over the last 5 or 6 years and they got a $400,000 turf football field....

Again I love Memorial!! I wish they would just build a new Memorial Gym or same layout anyways...

The forum would have been a great spot for a new gym...

Didn't say it was a rule! It's actually a bonding issue and that's really all I know about it, but it applies to the building of a new gym and projected enrollment.

Hazard should play in Memorial period. Clay County had the best atmosphere in their old gym and they built a new gym. Their new gym sucks as far as atmosphere goes. The games in Memorial have a buzz. You can feel the history when you are there.

People on here don't understand what it feels like to play at Memorial Gym, most people on here never played basketball in high school, all they know is at Memorial they have to walk from their cars, its a special place to play...

But

Home lock rooms at Hazard are very nice.... who cares about guest...

I've been in about every gym in southeastern Kentucky, including metropolises like Leatherwood High School and Henderson Settlement School. Probably the worst locker room facilities I have seen are a toss-up between my home high school, Evarts and the OLD Leslie County gym. The filthiest I ever witnessed was the visiting locker room at James A. Cawood in the early 90s. The locker room was so littered and unsanitary that the visiting coach refused to use it and requested a classroom for his team to dress.

In football, the most interesting locker room situation was Leslie County High School. The school was fairly new in 1975. We dressed in a classroom in the high school and had to walk with a towel wrapped around us through the parking lot to the shower facilities. We shared the same shower facilities with the home team. Not a good situation.
