Gov. Ernie Fletcher was indicted on misdemeanor charges Thursday by a special grand jury investigating state hiring practices. Fletcher was charged with criminal conspiracy, official misconduct, and violating the prohibition against political discrimination.

The grand jury also handed down 14 sealed indictments.

A special grand jury has been investigating the Fletcher administration's hiring practices since last June. It has been looking into allegations that the Fletcher administration rewarded political supporters with state jobs after he took office two years ago.

So far, 13 current and former administration officials and associates have been indicted on various misdemeanor charges stemming from the probe.

Fletcher spokesman Troy Body said the governor's office would release a statement later.
