John Hardin 28 Meade County 10
#1
The John Hardin Bulldogs had a lackluster first half, but one play turned it around and it changed the complexion of the game.

On the final play of the first half, junior quarterback Patrick Anderson threw a 40-yard Hail Mary pass to senior Dorian Collins to turn a deficit into a 14-10 halftime lead and the Bulldogs rolled from there to a 28-10 victory over the Meade County Green Wave on Friday night at Hamilton Field.

John Hardin (3-0) has won 35 consecutive regular-season games and 57 of its last 58. The Bulldogs have never lost at Meade County in five trips, but this one was in doubt early.

The Green Wave scored on their opening possession as senior Zach Bogard kicked a 26-yard field goal, and they took a 10-8 lead on senior John Clark’s 14-yard run with 2 minutes left in the half.

The Bulldogs drove 40 yards on eight plays and then Anderson heaved a deep pass down the right sideline to Collins, who had slipped behind the defense.

In the third quarter, John Hardin junior Khalil Frazier had a 58-yard punt to pin the Green Wave on their own 4. Two plays later, junior defensive tackle Matt Elam broke through the line and sacked senior quarterback Jake Wilson in the end zone.

John Hardin scored on its next two possessions to stretch the lead to 28-10 with 4:13 left in the third quarter. Senior Garrett Ray had a 7-yard scoring run and senior Jalen Fleming, who rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns, raced 20 yards down the left sideline and dove into the end zone.

The Bulldog defense did the rest. Meade County, which managed only 239 yards of total offense, punted on its next possession and turned the ball over on downs in the red zone on its final two drives.

Meade County (1-2) held the Bulldogs to 246 yards of total offense, but John Hardin came up with several big plays on special teams. Elam blocked a punt, which led to a touchdown, and the Bulldogs averaged more than 30 yards on four returns.

UP NEXT: John Hardin plays at Boyle County (1-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Meade County plays at Warren Central (3-0) at 8 p.m. Friday.
