Good and fun game to watch. First off, enjoyed watching some of Gavin's defensive plays at short. Very nice!! Hope he has a great career at Berea.
JC did indeed staff this game out as I thought they would. Blanton(2), Ward(2), Hitchcock(1), Mayes(1), and Meek (1).
Pikeville went with Ward, Maynard, and Burke.
Pikeville jumped out to a 2-0 lead early and JC came from behind in the 4th to score 6 and never looked back..
Good luck to Pikeville in the post season.

This is what happenings when to walk on base runners. Without that, this would have be a great game. Credit to JC for throwing strikes and minimizing damage. They are a solid club.
Gavin has been an absolute pleasure to watch. He is so smooth out there. Really going to miss him offensively but also as a vacuum out at SS.
Pikeville finishes the regular season 23-7. Not bad after all of the losses from graduation. Did not drop any to bad teams, but the record against solid teams leaves a little to be desired. Still though, this team is capable if it can get three good starts from the staff.
Pikeville will enjoy the one game this week, and get some much needed rest for their arms.
Go Panthers!

?? Usually you make perfect sense, but I can't decipher this...
Regardless, doesn't look good for Pikeville...
Not an expert by any means, but this team seems to lack the fire of the last several teams...again, not in the loop and hope I am wrong.

What I meant to say is that this is what happens when you put runners on via the walk or HBP. JC scored 6 runs off of two hits in the 4th inning. Everything just snowballed and it was nightmare of an inning. Once they are handed base runners, a simple double can plate 3 as opposed to putting a guy in scoring position without a run.
I do agree about worries, now 3-7 in the toughest ten games on the schedule. And none of those teams are great, just solid ball clubs.
We will see what they are made of in the next two weeks.

I think what he was trying to say is that bad things happen when you cant throw strikes and beat yourself with walks rather than allowing them to reach base from a hit.
I will say this. I thought it was very difficult for either team to throw strikes, especially early on, because what is normally a strike, was not necessarily one today. There was nothing at the knees or on the outside corners that was called. The strike zone seemed to favor the high pitch. But it was consistant and everybody just had to learn where this ump's zone was. I would refer to it as a hitter's zone today.

Pikeville could've potentially won this game. Ward threw the ball well with a 2-0 lead and didnt give up a run nor a hit. He walks a guy and pegs a guy and they pull him like it was an absolute collapse. The defense worked hard behind him like they have all year, especially Miller who is probably the best shortstop to come through there in a while, so I dont see why replace him.
If PHS does not win region it is because they will get out coached. period.
Johnson County is a good team who has rather good pitching. They can win the 57th

I do agree a double hurts a lot more after a texas league and a couple of walks than it does with nobody on

His arm was tired before the game even started. Granted Maynard didn't do any better, but it was a move that needed to be made sooner rather than later. Hindsight being 20/20 it would have been nice to have gone to Burke. This was a game where PHS was going to use 3-4 arms, in that situation, it was the right call, IMO.

Good news is this game means nothing and arms will have time to rest up. This was the 4th game of the week and everyone that threw today had already had work this week. JC's depth on the mound was impressive. It is something PHS just does not have.
I am not sure how they will lose on the basis of being "out-coached" only. The schedule has played out and like I said earlier, PHS is 3-7 in those games. None of those games have been blown on coaching mistakes. At this point, Johnson Central, Belfry, and Prestonsburg are better teams. "Period". Pikeville will have to bring their "A" game and catch some breaks to bring this Region Title home. That being said, I do believe it is very possible. Small room for error, however.
I want nothing more than to see Gavin Miller, Randy Maynard, Jacob Hamilton, and the others celebrate on their home field together one last time!
Go Panthers!

I can live with a team beating the ball all over the park and beating you. But I hate seeing a team give runs up that the other team does not earn. I am not overly concerned. It was a one time thing with pitching on short rest against a good team. I think PHS will bounce back.
Good Luck to Johnson Central in the post season!

lol....Well when you think about it they did pull him with a no hitter going at the time.
Not to take anything away from Gavin but his brother Corey played with a pretty good one too. It's not been all that long ago (2005) that Corey Hamilton played there. Best I remember, he wrote all of the defensive records for Pikeville while he played the position.

I guess a coaching decision and it was a slaughter in the making. Some coaches pull a little early and others let em fry. Who knows? Seen some games where a subbing with the kids grandmother would be best just to get em out of the fire.

Ya know in years to come this may be referred to as the TV game. The one that gives you an early look at who will be walking in bluegrass real soon.
