Gameball: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was a force of nature in this game. Almost every foul he made, and he made five, were fouls of aggressive commission. He dominated the game in the big run in almost every conceivable way, scored 19 points on 7-10 shooting, 5 rebounds, 4-4 from the line. He was the passion that fueled the Wildcats' machine, a maelstrom which seemed to consume the Baylor will.

----

Good Thoughts:

- Anthony Davis. A double-double despite a scary knee injury, and six more blocks to go along with his 18 points and 11 rebounds.

- Terrence Jones got a very long, hard look for player of the game. He only scored 12 points, but he had 9 huge rebounds, most of them in major traffic, and an incredible 6 assists. Fantastic game.

- Marquis Teague didn't have a great game, but he did a good job with Baylor's frenetic pressure in the second half. 3 assists, 4 turnovers and 8 points.

- Doron Lamb had an up and down game. He didn't score in the first half, missing several good looks, but he did make a three in the second half and had a couple of steals. It wasn't his greatest game in spite of his 14 points, but it was plenty good enough.

- Darius Miller did what he always does -- create nightmare matchups and be the perfect glue guy. He didn't shoot great, but he had 3 assists and 2 steals. More importantly, he made every free throw he took (4-4).

- Kyle Wiltjer didn't play that much, but once again, the buried a three that really extended the Kentucky run. Per minute, he may lead the team in scoring in this tournament.

----

Not So Good Thoughts:

- Free throw shooting. Too many misses made this game closer than it should have been. Doron Lamb was particularly poor for some reason.

- I wish we had waited a little longer to go to the delay game, but Calipari knows what he's doing. I'm just a fan.

Talking points

Baylor's 8-0 run gave it a 10-5 lead and its length inside seemed to bother UK in the early moments. That did not last long. Baylor began turning it over, and an impressive 16-0 UK run caused two Baylor timeouts within 41 seconds. Baylor's swagger was answered loudly by Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who had 10 early points. UK went more than 10 minutes without missing a shot and exploded to a 30-15 lead. It was 42-22 at the half. The arena full of Cats fans went silent when Anthony Davis hurt his knee early in the second half. Davis returned but looked in pain. UK went up 51-28 when Doron Lamb made his first basket with 16:39 left. UK appeared to become a little disengaged and Baylor showed a little fight. The Bears got within 63-50 but UK ended the comeback with six straight points.

Telling numbers

■ Baylor's 10-5 lead was the biggest deficit UK has faced in the tournament. UK responded by running off 16 straight points.

■ Baylor opened the game hitting four of its five shots, then went 4-for-20 the rest of the half.

■ UK opened 3-for-11, then made 11 straight shots.

■ Kyle Wiltjer was in the game 14 seconds before he made a three-pointer to put UK up 15-10.

■ At the time UK led 38-17, Kidd-Gilchrist had 17 points.

■ UK needed to limit Baylor sharpshooter Brady Heslip from three-point land. He did not attempt a shot the first half. He attempted two shots and made one overall.

■ UK freshmen Kidd-Gilchrist and Davis combined to score 31 points and hit 12 of 16 shots in the first half.

■ Kentucky made three turnovers in the first half.

■ How many weapons can UK throw at an opponent? Marquis Teague, Terrence Jones and Lamb totaled one field goal and four points in the first half and UK still led by 20. Lamb was guarding Heslip.

■ Don't underestimate the six assists, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals by Jones in the first half.

■ Quincy Acy had all but four of Baylor's field goals 24 minutes into the game.

■ UK attempted only 16 field goals in the second half.

Thumbs up

■ It's true that Baylor matched UK's length and maybe its athleticism. What it couldn't do was match UK's defensive intensity or offensive precision. Chalk that up to good coaching and stars who will listen.

■ Defensively, Kentucky was outstanding.

■ Offensively, Kentucky was unselfish.

■ Get ready, New Orleans — here comes the state of Kentucky.

Thumbs down

■ If you had left Atlanta with three minutes to go, you would have had a good start on getting home by game's end. With all the fouls and timeouts, it took forever.

I really wish that UK would have come out of the second half with the same intensity as the first half. Sitting on the ball and trying to milk the clock will backfire someday.

^ know that players get lost in the feel of the game, and during the first half, the game felt like a rout! It's expected that a team comes out in the 2nd half and performs at the same level, but it just does not happen.
#13
I still don't like the let up this team has when it gets a big lead. I heard Calapari take the blame for that afterwards but it seems to me they lose focus when they get up big. I hope it never comes back yo bight them.

First half defense was outstanding.

^ I have yet to see them play two great halves of basketball all year.

It's tradition, we always do this, just like alot of other schools do to. As long as we're safe and don't go overboard, the cops and everyone else are completely cool with it.

One of the most amazing games/weekends I have ever had!!! Catlanta was perfect and I am now trying to make my way down to blue Orleans to support these cats through and through!!! But as for the game:
Baylor had the athleticism and the length to match up with Kentucky and it started out that they could try to run with us. Once the emotions ran its course, Baylor slacked off on defense and of course UK went the run that defined the game. The offensive blitz that ensued allowed for a 20 point lead at the half and it was never in doubt at that point. UK looked poised, made great decisions, make the correct passes, and simply played more disciplined than Baylor. They simply were the better team in every aspect. UK deserves it, they have stepped up, and they have responded to everything!! The celebration was wondering and the crowd literally was 90% UK. Rupp Arena south!!!!

I was a student at UK when "The Shot" happened. Nobody burned anything. I did see the guy in the apartment next door throw a full keg off a balcony though. I almost cried. What a waste.

About peed my pants when I saw this......my wife and I laughed watching this guy in the stands during the game......you wouldn't see that at a Baylor football game, someone would have punched him.

Also, I wonder who started the whole couch burning movement? Seeing that it is college, you know that was someone's bed.

Ill be down at the final 4. Can't wait to see the game with the Cards

Acy is one hell of a college basketball player because of his style.

You take him off that team and UK wins by 40+.
