Phelps 55 East Ridge 52
#31
Belfry0304 Wrote:Tony Wolter is a much more promising HIGH SCHOOL player than Ray. Kasongo is lazy in-game. He refuses to work for the ball or play hard and it's almost sad to see his talent go to waste. He needs to step it up and start playing hard. Pretty dunks don't mean anything if you're taking losses.

The coach can draw up "Throw it to Ray and let him go to work" all you want, the problem is he won't set his feet and play strong to get the damn basketball. He gets it and tries to be finesse and make the highlight play, he needs to just get the ball in the basket!

I'm assuming Ray is #24 and Tony is #5??
Anyway, I didn't want to post anything that might be offensive or take away from Phelps' effort. I didn't see that game, so I don't know how it played out. I did; however, watch them tonight against HC and man, did you EVER hit the nail on the head!!!

I know these kids are young, but #5 gave tons of effort and he's quick as a cat!! I wasn't impressed with #24 though. He gave a show during warm ups, and I thought he'd be a major factor in the game. He wasn't. And it was all due to his attitude, effort and team playing. I'm not sure how tall he is, but he is a huge presence. I don't think I saw him post up one time in the game tonight. Lots of talent and physicality there. I hope his coach can develop it.

Suffered a shoulder injury against Magoffin County right before the iHigh tournament in Lexington. Got hit on a hard foul while driving to the basket, I believe. He is working his way back into the game, played about 8 or 9 minutes tonight in the Pikeville Invitational Tournament against Beechwood.

Anyway, to answer BlueSky, yes, Pikeville is a Top 5 team in the region without Rowe, given how wide open the region is this year. With Rowe, Top 3 team.

Phelps isn't the worst team in the state but they are not Top 5 in the region.

Betsy Layne beat them soundly.

Top 4 in no particular order -

Johnson Central
Magoffin
Sheldon Clark
Pikeville

I honestly don't know who I'd put in the 5th spot.

OK, well SV beat Magoffin soundly and you have them in the top 4...when Phelps beats them and another one or two of these teams, then will it be safe to say they are top 5?

I have to agree. Pikeville beat Magoffin soundly as well, on their own home court too. Right now, if I were to rank them, I would say:

Sheldon Clark
Pikeville
Betsy Layne
Shelby Valley
Johnson Central

In no particular order. Too early in the year for that, but that is my top 5 right now.
