Matt Robinson without a doubt the leading tackler in East Kentucky Football History. The kids probably go close to 500 tackles. Probably the best ALL AROUND football player to come out of the mountains in a very long time. Will he get the respect he deserves?

Who is Matt Robinson?

what team?

Are you all serious or just messing with the guy? LOL I know you all have opened a Perry Central thread this year. If so you saw his name before, during, and after the game. He avg probably 20-25 solos a game throughout his career.

Never heard of the kid. Also, the courier journal only takes seasonal stats, not career.

You know the resident trolls will show no respect for a mountain team player.
IMO, Robinson would have been as good if he would have played anywhere in the state and could have started for any team.
He should be, but voters usually dont look this way so who knows...

Linebacker for Perry County Central.
You can literally open up any PCC thread and learn anything you want to know about him.
I would bet hes had more tackles the past two seasons than anyone, and may have more for his career than anyone playing.
If they do go by season stats, he'll be on there.

This year he had 81 Solo Tackles, 122 assisted tackles, 203 total tackles, 1 INT, 3 Fumble Recoveries
He also had 437 yards rushing with 13 TD's this year in a passing offense.
His junior year he had 76 solo tackles

Matt Robinson had an exceptional season in the tackle's dept at 203. but he only had a little over 400 YD's rushing for this season and for his career, according to KHSAA. Also, he had 405 tackles for his career. That is an average of 101 tackles per season and he only broke 100 tackles in a season once. That's pretty good for a career but hardly qualifies him to be the best all around player to come out of the mountains. Not even this season. JJ Jude had 2,964 YD's rushing and 36 tackles this season. One can say that Robinson's 436 rushing YD's is about 15% of Judes 2,964 YD's and Judes 36 tackles is about 18% of Robinson's 203 tackles. So, actually JJ Jude had a better season than Robinson. Only slightly but still yet better. Pretty good company though.

I dont think the way you are looking at it is correct. This was the first year Matt played offense, and he only started playing about halfway through the year. So to compare his offensive stats from a spread team that ran the ball about 10 plays a game is far away from JJ's where the entire offense is based on him. On defense there are no plays to get you involved in the play, you have to track the ball down and make a tackle.
If im not mistaken, JJ played LB also, so the only correct comparison would be Matts 203 tackles to JJ's 36.
Thats not a knock on JJ at all, we all know hes a great athlete and a great kid. Im just saying you cant compare the two kids by Matts offensive production. He was basically a mid season 3rd down back.

It depends on what award we are talking about here. If it's Defensive player of the year then Matt's got my vote but,the original post that I responded too claimed "the best all around player to come out of the mountains in a long time" and I think I have proven that statement to be wrong. The kid is a heck of a defensive player, maybe the best I've seen in a while but,to say he is the best all around player is just not so.

Matt Robinson is a very good football player but that is pushing it.

I think that Matt's tackle number's were amazing this season. With that said,I think his tackle number's,outside of this season, were good but, according to the KHSAA,he only had 85 tackles as a junior,80 as a sophomore and 35 tackles as a freshman. Don't get me wrong, that is real good, especially his sophomore season, but not great by any means. The comment that he had 20+ solo's a game throughout his career, according to KHSAA and the PCC coach that entered his stats,is way off. But I will also say that Matt is probably the purest linebacker in the mountain's this season. I've watched him on video this season and the way he makes a read and fills a hole is tremendous. I think he is a D1 linebacker. I am a fan of his.
I am also a fan of Harlan Co.'s Jake Middleton who as a junior this season had 115 tackles and 1,500 YD's rushing for the season. I am not comparing the two because Jake comes from a running team and I'm sure that Matt could have had as many YD's as Jake if his team ran the ball much. I am just a fan of great mountain defensive player's and these two foot the bill.

Matt is a very exceptional football player for sure. To say he is the best all around to come out of the mountains in a long time is just a little to much.
Is he the best? no
Is he one of the best? yes
Will he make All State? doubtful
Does he deserve it? certainly
There are several others as good & some better at his position in the state. Matt should at least get an honorable mention. He is well deserving of that. Possibly a 3rd team selection.

Just to clear up the amount of tackles he has had in his career:
2008: 83 solo, 35 assisted (9 games)
2009: 68 solo, 80 assisted (10 games)
2010: 76 solo, 87 assisted (10 games)
2011: 81 solo, 122 assisted (12 games)
Totals: 308 solo, 324 assisted, 632 total, 41 games
An average of 15 tackles per game.
I definitely think he deserves to be first team all-state, but as someone said, the voters don't often look to the east.

Ok people listen up. Matt Robinson was NEVER used properly his entire career at Perry Central. Not sure if the kid wanted to play on both sides of the ball or not but if he wanted to play both ways, he should have. He probably would of been Perrys best running back his Freshmen year through his Senior years. I think the coaches there have held Matt back for years in hopes of keeping other kids happy. When Matt Robinson had the football in his hands, good things happened. The reason I say BEST ALL AROUND is that he ran the football down peoples throats, NOT RELYING on speed, ran over people and sometimes out ran them. Probably would of been the best reciever on the team if they would of went to him, again trying to keep some kids happy. And hey, you gotta do stuff like that in order to have a good team. I would of utilized Robinson to the Max. Using him solely for defense was a mistake when they have had problems in the past out scoring good teams. I will still say that Matt Robinson is the BEST ALL AROUND player we have had around here in a long time. To bad he didnt play for Matney or Trinity. He'd probably be going to Notre Dame if he'd been at Trinity or somewhere like that.

After going back and checking,I stand corrected,PCC did not list total tackle's and I read the last column that way. Sorry for the incorrect stats.

I think he really deserves it. I really hope he does.

Hey I was just guessing with my avg. But I was pretty close.
I think its hard to determine who is the overall best simply because all kids dont play for the same team, or run the same style of offense. Their is probably a kid on every team who you could make this argument for.
I do think Matt deserves some kind of recognition, I dont think he will get it though.

matt is a great player an is very worthy of bein all state but i would also say john brewer from leslie county has as many or more tackles by season or career as matt an also played lg and rg on offense i think two of best lbs in state an was lucky to get to watch such great players an leaders on the field

The problem with tackles they are VERY SUBJECTIVE to say the least. So coaches only give solo tackles and some coaches give 8 different kids a tackle on each play.
Don't know anything about the kid or the program so I can't really say anything else about the situation.

Good player but I don't think he was the best to come out of the mountains for a very long time. I also don't think Jude is either. Channing Fugate from Breathitt Co. deserves that honor during the last decade.

It's a close call...but he should be in the consideration.
I've seen this kid play. As some of the posters on here have not heard of him, I would use three words to describe him.
Silent but deadly.

I know of coaches that if a kid is around a pile they'll get an "assist"
tackling stats are almost as accurate as 40 times
