It was a very ugly game throughout but Lloyd made the plays when it mattered. Both teams played with a lot of heart and pride tonight. Congrats to Lloyd and for Walton congratulations on a tremendous 8-2 regular season and good luck next year.

This was a very ugly game throughout Lloyd made plays down the stretch when they had to. Congrats to Lloyd. Walton's young program keeps gaining momentum with last years 7-3 regular season and this years 8-2 season. Keep up the hard work in the off season and good luck to you guys next year.

The Walton-Verona and Lloyd football teams combined for 56 points during their regular-season meeting, won by the Bearcats, who scored six touchdowns.
In Friday's rematch, a Class 2A first-round playoff at Walton-Verona Sports Complex, neither team scored until the fourth quarter, and it was all Lloyd as the third-seeded Juggernauts upset the second-seeded Bearcats, 13-0
"We missed 31 tackles the last game. That was the difference; we tackled," Lloyd coach Josh Stratton said. "Our defense got the shutout, and I couldn't be more proud."
Defensive heroes for Lloyd (5-6) included Tyler York, who came up with some big stops, and Mitchell Brooks, whose interception on the final play for Walton-Verona (8-3) sealed the win.
"We make big plays when we need to," said Brooks, who led the Juggernauts with seven catches for 73 yards.
The win avenged a 42-14 Lloyd regular-season loss to the Bearcats, and put the Juggernauts into next week's second-round contest against defending state champion Newport Central Catholic.
"Bring on the 'Breds. That's all I got to say," said Lloyd quarterback Dexter Smith, who passed for 195 yards and two touchdowns, one to Brooks and one to Quentin Nunn, both in the final 11 minutes.
"Dexter is a leader of the school and he's a great leader for us," Stratton said. "He plays hurt. He plays hard and he never gives up."
The game was scoreless until Smith hit Brooks with an 11-yard touchdown pass with 10:15 to play. Smith rolled right and got the throw off with a Walton-Verona defender on his back and hit Brooks who leaped high in the end zone for the score. Ricky Torres nailed the extra-point kick for a 7-0 Juggernauts lead.
Walton was forced to punt on its next possession. The Juggernauts began a drive at their own 35 and marched deep into Bearcats terrritory with three straight plays that produced a first down, including a 27-yard scramble by Smith to the Walton 18.
Five plays later, Smith hit Nunn with a 6-yard TD pass with 2:04 to play. The extra-point kick hit the upright, setting the final score.
"We executed on offense this time," Smith said. "This feels so amazing to win."
Defense ruled the opening quarter as the teams combined for just one first down, four punts and 50 total yards. There were four consecutive four-and-out possessions in the quarter. The longest play in the frame was a 14-yard pass completion from Walton's Nolan Daugherty to Zach MacAdams.
There was a little bit more offense in the second quarter, most of it by the Juggernauts, who were able to keep the Bearcats' defense on the field the majority of the time. The teams combined for 106 second-quarter yards.
Walton-Verona gave itself an excellent chance to get the game's first score after Logan Foley blocked a punt and Cory Bennett recovered at the Lloyd 16 yard line. But the possession was derailed by a costly Bearcats penalty which negated a 3-yard touchdown run by Matt Hendren, and a low snap that aborted a 25-yard field goal try by Peter Lussi. Walton totaled 114 first-half yards.
Lloyd had a 37-yard passing touchdown called back on the ensuing possession because of offensive pass interference. The drive ended in a punt.
Walton had one more opportunity to get the game's first score on their final drive of the half. Bennett ran 11 yards on first down and Nolan Brown tacked on a 12-yard run, then MacAdams took a reverse 37 yards down to the Lloyd 19. Lussi missed a 36-yard field goal attempt with less than 2 seconds remaining.

Went to the game and you could tell right away it would be close. tied 0-0 at half with both teams having a TD called back and having a big special teams play. Lloyd's 5-0 defense took the lanes away from WV's rbs and kept the linemen from getting downfield blocks, and thats where WVs bread and butter is.
Great game from QB Dexter Smith and LB Dillon Smith.
