I was just wondering what classifys the class system in Kentucky. Like how their is 6 classes in kentucky football. Is it the total student population?
#2
Male student population.
Classes go from 1A to 6A
#3
Class 6A — The 36 largest schools in the state, based on average enrollment of boys only, among schools that sponsor the sport.

Class 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A — Each with 36 schools, in decreasing order of enrollment

Class A — All remaining schools that sponsor football after the other classes are filled

2 year average male student population.

Class 6A and 1A are limited to 32 teams each resulting in exactly 8 4 team districts. Thus all teams make the playoffs regardless of record.

Class 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A are evenly split amount remaining schools after taking out the 64 from above. This results in district sizes of 4, 5 or 6 teams. So some districts have all teams make the playoffs regardless of record. Other districts have 4 of 6 teams make the playoffs.

So depending on what Class you are in teams that are 0-10 can make the playoff but a team that is 5-5 may not.

And the following 'special' rule:

"(*) For 2011 and 2012 playing season, the 5th place team in District 6 of Class 6A will be bracketed as the number four (4) seed in District 2 for the purpose of making playoff pairings."
