Lexington Catholic Coach Bob Griggs Retires
#1
Bob Griggs is retiring as head coach of the Lexington Catholic High School Softball Team. He has been the coach for the past 19 years. Coach Griggs transitioned the team from slow pitch to fastpitch in 1995, and has been the only fastpitch coach at the school. After 17 fastpitch seasons, he has compiled an overall fastpitch record of 319-262-1. During those seasons, his teams won 10 district championships, 1 regional championship, and 2 region runnerups. In 1999 after completing a 28-9 record, Coach Griggs and his staff were voted the Kentucky Coaching Staff of the Year by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association. In 2000, Coach Griggs was inducted into the Kentucky Prep Softball Hall of Fame, and in 2008 he was recognized as the Kentucky Prep Softball 11th Region Coach of the Year. He has been very active in the coaches association. He created their website in 1999, and currently maintains it for the association. He is finishing his current term as President of the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association for this season. He does plan to stay active in the coaches association, and to continue as webmaster and membership director of the association. Coach Griggs has also been very active in Kentucky Prep Softball (which organizes the East West All Stars and the Kentucky/Tennessee All Stars series). He has served as an all star coach 6 times, and continues to serve as an assistant director with the organization.
