Mason County coach Stephen Butcher will not return to lead the Lady Royals next season.
Mason principal and athletic director Steve Appelman confirmed Friday that Butcher's contract will not be renewed.
The Lady Royals compiled a 35-49 record during Butcher's three-year tenure, including a 9-18 mark this year. Mason's season ended Monday with a 64-56 loss to Bracken County in the first round of the 39th District tournament.
Butcher could not be reached when a call was made to the school seeking comment Friday afternoon.
Appelman said the school doesn't yet have a timeline in place to find a new coach.

Bring him home back to Pike Central. I know that won't happen, but I know Butcher on a personal level. I want to wish him the best of luck with whatever he does down the road.
