Clay County @ Perry Central (WYMT Classic Semifinals)
#1
Clay and Perry both comes off big wins.

Thoughts/Predictions?
#2
Clay by 5
#3
Perry by 7 at home.
I think the Cornett brothers will have another huge night on the offensive glass.
#4
Hooker is very tough for Clay and the guards for Perry can not guard him, but the big guys on the inside should be able to score at will on the inside. This will be a great ball game, I think Perry will have to protect it better than they did tonight to come out with the win, very shaky with the ball. I will say Perry in a very close one, 53-50
#5
From what I saw tonite Perry should win with the score being 40 to 37. Its not because of the slow down game either, these teams just cant score AT ALL. No outside shooting from either team. Hooker is a nice player but has VERY limited range. Look for both teams to pack it in!!!
#6
It will be a great game but I was more impressed with Clay than I was Perry. But if PCC plays the way they did the start of the game and the end of it, they should win by 5 or 6.

Clay by 4.

54-50

Clay has 2 good shooters in Roberts and Whitaker. Neither one has really been able to get hot yet this year, but both have proven in the past that they are deadly from the outside. Roberts hit like 8 3's in the district championship game when he was a freshman and has had some huge games since then, but I think PCC will be a tough match up for them. I think the big kid could get into foul trouble if Clay will work the ball in. I look for Clay to win in a close game that could go either way. Also look for Mitchell to have a better game Friday. He has been battling sickness all week and was well below 100% tonight.

Is Kyle Huff going to be available in this one?
#10
Clay will have to get a big game from Hooker and Gay on the glass.

Talked to his father tonight and he said he didn't think he'd play all year.

Key to the game, is Adam Gay. Gay has to be on the floor for Clay. The Cornett boys hit the glass hard, so Clay will need to rebound the ball, Gay got in early foul trouble in tonight's game. He'll have to be on the floor if Clay wants to win.
#13
^^^ no doubt. If Gay can slow them down and battle on the boards I think Clay's guard play prevails.

If this is the key Perry will win because this kid Can Not keep his head during a game.

Going to be interesting. Perry don't have anyone that can guard Hooker and Clay don't have anyone that can guard the Cornett brothers. I think the key to the game is the battle of the glass. Perry is going to win it, but if Clay can keep it respectable than they have a good shot to win. It could go either way but I'll take Perry at home, there only home loss the last two years was against Christian County.
#17
I think the key to this game will be Clay Co.'s offense VS Perry's defense. Hooker will take anyone PCC has off the dribble anytime he wants and if PCC plays zone defense then Clay has more then one great 3-point shooter. Clay IMO is the hardest offense to guard in the mountains. I think Hooker will be the difference and Clay to win by 6

I was looking at Perry's schedule. They have some good games coming up with Clay and a shot at redemption next week at Whitley.
My question is why is Hazard not on the schedule? I noticed they were also not paired with each other in the WYMT which looks like it was put that way so the two wouldnt play.
Im sure they is some bad blood between the two, every city/county school does the same, however these two could meet in district and region anyways. I dont understand why two teams in the same district arent facing each other in the regular season. Please dont tell me that the two boards are so against the thought of playing in the regular season that they still resort to the blind draw in that district.
I'm sure you PCC fans know the answer, but this one is take me aback, i seriously had no idea that it was set up like that.

Almost every game the last few years between Perry/Hazard there has been a lot of drama. Not with the players, but with the fans. Fights after every game, sometimes fans get on the court, just crazy stuff lol. The schools agreed not to play during the regular season a few years ago. IMO not playing during the regular season builds up tension for the post season match up and just makes the drama worse. The schools just really hate each other.
54th district has a blind draw, it's ridiculous. Perry/Hazard want a vote but Leslie and Buckhorn want the draw.
#20
BTW, I believe the 14th region has proved that's it's the superior region in the mountains, going 3-1 in the opening round games.
#21
I see. I agree that all its doing is building up to the drama of the tournament which could make things worse.
Has either school ever heard of beefing up security?
I remember Corbin/Whitley games in the 90's, there use to be a rope around the entire court with a security officer standing about every ten feet from each other. It kept kids from wanting to even thinking about doing something stupid. It was also standing room only at both schools which held over 7000 people a couple of times i went which was much more than capacity. '
There were still fights after the games but that was police matter once it was no longer in the school and the schools had no worries about doing anything or taking action because the police were there.
Thankfully, its not like that any more because the love of the school is not what it use to be for either school. They simply play the game and get along. Sure tempers can flare but that can happen against anybody you play.
I really hope these two can figure something out.

Oh there always a ton of security at the games but stuff still seems to happen lol. After the 09 regional finals, fights broke out outside, everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Every direction you looked they was a fight, it was crazy.

The Perry County grade schools and Roy G. Eversole don't play either. This also hurts the grade school programs money wise.

Man o man.. IDK where to begin with this game..

Perry held Clay scoreless 1st quarter..
The smaller of the Cornett brothers hit 2 3;s and it was 15-0 at the end of the first..

Clay battled back after the 2nd half..

C'mon PCC, how in the world do you blow a lead like you had???? Geez.
Hooker was not even a threat in this game, Mitchell dominated.
