Eastern 76, Bullitt East 59, final: Lyonell Gaines had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead the Eagles. Remy Abell added 19 points and Byron Sanford had 16. Corey Washburn had 18 points and Hayden Sweat 16 to lead Bullitt East. No. 2 Eastern (5-0) will face Boone County in Mondayâ s 7:30 p.m. quarterfinal.

Eastern 76, Bullitt East 59: With three players scoring in double figures, the Eagles answered every Chargers challenge.
“This tournament to us is second only to the state tournament,” senior Lyonell Gaines said. “The top five teams in the state and teams from all across the country are here.
“As seniors, we want to win this tournament.”
Gaines isn’t the highest-rated player on the team but led the Eagles (5-0) with 24 points and eight rebounds. The IUPUI signee made 8?of?15 shots and all seven of his free throws.
“Remy (Abell) and Kam (Woods) make the flashier plays,” Eastern coach Jason Couch said. “But Lyonell does all of the dirty work for us. He’s tough.”
Abell, who has signed with Bradley, had 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. Byron Sanford added 16 points, and Butler signee Woods had eight points, six rebounds and five blocked shots for the Eagles.
Eastern will face Boone County (5-1) in Monday’s second round at 7:30?p.m.
It looked as if it would be easy for the Eagles, darting to a 22-10 advantage over Bullitt East (6-1).
But the Chargers fought back.
Hayden Sweat ended the first quarter with two buckets, and Rusty Troutman started the second quarter with back-to-back three-pointers.
“I tried to tell everybody how good this Bullitt East team was,” ? Couch said. “Coach (Troy) Barr has it rolling out there. They have a lot of good players and never quit.”
Eastern jumped ahead 38-28 before the Chargers made another run, cutting it to 38-37 at halftime.
But Abell had a three-pointer and Armon Marks scored? both of his baskets in an 11-2 run to open the second half. The Chargers got no closer than 10 the rest of the way.
“We have good spurtability,” Couch said. “When they made their runs it was because we missed? a shot and had our heads down on defense. They hit some big shots.
“But I thought our guys did a good job fighting back.”
Corey Washburn led Bullitt East (6-1) with 18 points.
