Virgie won 28-6
They didn't play that good in the first but
played a great second half due to a better denfense half and a strong running game by the Hughes kid
Good job eagles

Why can Virgie be so good at the middle school level and then very average on the varsity level???
10-12-2005, 10:15 AM
Good job virgie

Pikeville doesnt participate in county, however belfry does and was beat out in the semi-finals by elkhorn....
And to answer fox sports question im not positive but id say alot of the kids just lose interest because with two squads like virgie and dorton have put together in the previous years Valley should be more competitive...

Baller 12 makes a good point
The kids eathier transfer schools or
JUst lose the love of the game that they used to have
Valley has the talent they just dont have the participation

Some kids won't make the commitment to HS Football. Others make the commitment initially and can't handle it early on. I've watched the same kids come out for football year after year. Each year they make it through the 2 a days, the scrimmages and 2 maybe 3 games. You go back week 4, that same kid is sitting in the bleachers cheering for the team. There aren't to many sports where you suit up each day and left 250 pound lineman knock you around. A lot of kids just can't handle the hitting and banging that goes with the game. This is one sport you have to LOVE it to play it.

well said. But is there any chance that some of these Virgie players actually end up going to Pikeville, ER or even other places instead of Shelby Valley.

Virgie Football Players have been going to all different kinds of high schools lately..just to mention two well known names around the county that went to Virgie but didn't spend a day at the Valley...Daniel Harmon--Pikeville..Quirvoin Merchant--Pike Central.

IN my opinion its because that the hold backs stop growing in high school and all the normal aged kids catch up with them in maturity levels and body-wise.

Virge wouldn't play against SFMS we begged them to play us and they wouldn't they kept canceling us

I think its because high school football requires more dedication and the kids at Virgie are so used to just being able to show up and win it carries with them into high school...also alot of kids just lose interest or play basketball because its more socially acceptable. Whatever the problem is, if we ever get it fixed i think Valley could very well be up there with Belfry and Pikeville.

Well i have to say that virgie will always be good in football. it started in 1999-2000 and the county titles will always goin to fall to virgie. Virgie has one the county title for as long as they have had it and keep on winning. But they do have alot of hold backs that should be playing in high school. But the reason to the team not doing good is b/c high school is alot different then middle school. I hear kids talk about how middle school kids hit hard. lol it is a joke.

Virgie loses everything this year, so it will be a equal playing field next year.
