I heard of an AAU team from Pulaski that won the Kentucky State AAU tournament in there age group. Then they went on and 5th in the national AAU tournament in there age group. Could any body confirm this for me. If anyone lives or know's people from that area, find out and let us know. I have had many people tell me this and I hope it is true.

In the 10 and under Division II nationals Pulaski Thunder finished 5th in Detroit. They were eliminated in the round of 8 and qualified for 5th with play in a consolation bracket. Also, my son's team from Lexington went to Memphis for the 13U nationals and the Southern KY Warriors were there in Division II, aren't they from Pulaski County? They were eliminated in their first game of the Classic Bracket.
All the boys' results can be found at http://www.aauboysbasketball.org. Go to "Results", then "Nationals" and follow the prompts. It's a lot of info to sort thru.
For what it's worth, one of the AAU coaches had told me that once a kid got to the nationals they'd never be the same, they'd up their game when they saw how hard the game was played by so many others. I didn't get to make the trip to Memphis, but by all reports it had that effect on my son's team. It was very competitive and pushed the boys. My wife went, and said everything was very well run and the boys really enjoyed an on-target and motivating opening ceremony.
BTW, you don't have to win your state/district to get there, there are other qualifying events like Super-regionals that can get you in. My son's team qualified thru a tournament in Cincinnati. You don't even have to win, the number of teams a tournament can qualify depends on the number of teams entered. I mention this because after really not wanting to put more time and money into a trip to Memphis, it turned out to be such a good experience for the boys and they're all talking about next year and how much they want to go to nationals again. It's tough to get the time and money for the travel for these kids to play their tournaments, lots of car washes, bake sales, and concession booths. I guess I'm suggesting that picking tournaments that are qualifiers for the nationals gives you something big to play for other than just a victory on the weekend of the tournament like some of these events.
