Dale Jr. to drive No. 3 Nationwide
#1
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. will drive a No. 3 Nationwide Series car in the July race at Daytona International Speedway as part of a tribute series to his late father, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com.

good to hear.. I think he should just keep on driving the 3 car

Well, when Earnhardt was alive, I despised him as a driver. I despised him because he was ruthless, and because he was great. I respected him enough to say that he was arguably the greatest driver in the history of NASCAR (with the exception of my hero, David Pearson). The number 3 should NEVER be raced again. Do the right thing, NASCAR, and retire the number. Let him have 8 again or whatever, but nobody deserves the 3 again.

thats gonna be the greatest race ever i hope jr wins it in honor of his dad go getem jr

If he would race the black 3 in the sprint series it would be great as well. I would rather see him race for Childers who owns the rights to the number then anyone else. However I look forward to watching this. I think being in the 3 car might give Jr. more confidence and we might see him race harder. I would love nothing more then for Jr. to start winning races and keep the Earnhardt tradition and name as great drivers alive.

Nice salute to the Intimidator. As long as he's driving the #3 in the Nationwide Series, then I see no problem with it. In the Cup Series, the #3 is associated with greatness and there is no one in Nascar who is worthy of having the #3, especially JR. It would be a slap to the face for Nascar to issue that number to anyone ever again. I have to agree with TideHoss and say that the number should be retired.

Its good to hear hes racing the #3 again. JR has had alot of success in that series with that number. Plus it gives me an excuse to break out some of my old #3 stuff LOL!!!
