Do you think ashland can really do anything next year?

The team will have to rely much more heavily on the line next year along with the running game. Hopefully with Thomas a year older, Fields playing FB, and a more experienced line, the running game should be much more efficient. Currently, they're missing most of their big playmakers, and some students will have to step up to the plate in that area.

I say that they stand a huge chance of just reloading with everyone they still have remember they still have half of their O line but miss half of their D line. But my prediction is that Drew mcdavid will start QB with varsity knowledge as darrell mahan just cracks under pressure and might get a couple of snaps for next year growth. But till then I see ashland just putting people that can play the positions. Jeremy Nethercutt at DE Bryan Saylers who is comming off of a torn muscle injury at DE fields still at LB and a much more speedy reloaded backfield in the D.

They will be fine! We all know that Ashland has the ability to be a great team every year. I hope they go 9-1 during the season! Does anyone know if they are looking at a longer deal with Belfry in the future?

I think Ashland will reload and be just as good next year. They have a great senior class coming up. I'm hoping that Darrell Mahan can play QB and Drew McDavid will continue to play wide receiver. Fields Davis and Matt Thomas will most likely be the runningbacks, with Jeremy Nethercutt subbing in occasionally. I'm guessing the tight end will be Ryan Bonner, and the o-line should be much improved next year, since they're returning Michael Walters, Josh Cordle, and Lacy Snodgrass, who got the offensive lineman of the year award for his team, and made all-area.
On defense Travis Gallaher should be starting at one of the defensive tackle spots, while the other one is up for grabs. Robbie Renfroe, Aaron Erwin, Ryan Rigsby, Michael Walters, and Jesse Parsley are all capable of getting PT at that position. There will be a 3-way battle for the starting defensive end positions between Jeremy Nethercutt, Matt Bartram, Brian Salyers. Fields Davis, who made 2nd team all-state last year at linebacker, and Josh Cordle should be the starting inside linebackers. The outside linebacker position is up for grabs. Right now I'm guessing that Justin Castle, who played defensive end this year, will most likely switch back to playing outside linebacker. The other outside linebacker position could be played by Corey Sparks, Kevin Burns, Cordell Earl, among others. It will be interesting to see who gets that position. In the secondary, another 2nd team all-state player from this year, Drew McDavid, returns at corner. Matt Thomas should be filling in at the other corner position. All-area player Luke Bonner, who led the team in tackles last year, returns at free safety.
Ashland has lost some big playmakers from this year, but we have a lot of players that are capable of stepping up and filling in the positions as needed. I think wAshland could have more success this year, mainly because of the fact that we have a good defense returning, and the o-line will be much stronger and much improved, and shouldn't be a weak point on this team.

The Tomcats will have to rely on their running game and defense early in the year. With half the line coming back and a few that saw a good deal of playing time returning they should be able to pound the ball until the QB position gets settled. The defense only has 2 returning starters in the box. With Davis and Gallagher. The defensive end position will more that likely be filled by Nethercutt and Salyers. The other LB position beside Davis will be up for grabs, Cordle, and a few younger kids may have a shot at it, but right now i'll say Cordle because of the experience factor. The OLB postion is definitely up for grabs. I don't really see a frontrunner in the battle for that position, Castle has some experience playing some JV at that position, but i don't think he can move very well in space. The secondary is pretty much locked up with Bonner at FS, Mcdavid and Thomas at the corner positions.
We have a good deal of playmakers returning and some that can be playmakers but lack much need experience, and they will have to grow up quickly and make an impact for this Tomcat team.
