Simpson repeats as NKY POY
#1
The comparisons between Miles Simpson and Shaun Alexander began last year, almost as a whisper.

Was the Simon Kenton running back as good as Alexander the Great, arguably the best high school football player in Northern Kentucky history? Probably not. Was he in the best we’ve seen since the Boone County star? Time would tell.

For what it’s worth, Simpson has capped his high school career by doing something no player had done since Alexander – winning his second straight Enquirer player of the year award.

Simpson, who led the Pioneers to an 11-2 season and a No. 2 ranking in the state Associated Press poll, finished with 2,227 yards and 38 touchdowns on 234 carries.

Alexander, who went on to stardom at the University of Alabama and in the NFL, won the award in 1993 (when he shared the award with George Duvall of Conner) and 1994. Simpson won it outright as a junior and again this year.
