Man coach Harvey Arms called an old friend this week to secure a practice at the CAM. Man 12-1 will play in the state title game Saturday in Wheeling . As they take on undefeated Weirton Madonna. This is the Hillbillies first title appearance in 25 years. Man has never played on turf. And the title game is on turf. So coach Arms was looking for a facility so he could have at least one practice on turf. So he turned to an old friend in Phillip Haywood. Everytime this year when I talk to coach Arms about his team. He likes to talk about Belfry, Johnson Central, Sheldon Clark, Pikeville and Pike Central. They were scheduled to practice tonight there. Thanks Belfry for assisting man. One pure mountain team is playing for a title this weekend. Good luck Billies ! Bring home your first title.

when i played for bell on the state championship in '91 the championship game, it was at the old cardinal stadium and it was on turf. we actually were able to go to tennessee and practice one day at their indoor practice field. turf play was alot different from grass.

I hate to say it but mans had a great season and I hope they win but i've watched alot of wv state championships and followed wv,ohio ,and Kentucky. Wheeling Central is the class a power house year in year out and Madonna knocked off wheeling central 18-7 in the semis. Madonna will win easy but i'd love for man to win as the underdog.

Thanks for this thread Joe,
This oppurtunity to play for a state title meant a lot to Man High School. They, as many in the Appalachian Mountains, do not have great facilities. Belfry is fortunate to have a great stadium with a turf surface.
I'm sure the people that support Man and the same folks who support Belfry. I am glad Belfry was able to help them.
Congratulations Man on a great year.

The Blue Funk couldn't pull this one out. Man lost 27-7. Congrats to the Billies making the title game for the first time in 25 years.
Head Coach Harvey Arms does a great job. Now coach Arms has to gear up and coach the basketball team. Good luck to the Billies in the future. Except when they play Logan.

South Charleston won as well tonight for their second straight AAA championship and Bluefield beat Wayne 27 to 7 last night even though Wayne had 292 yards to 95 yards by Bluefield. Two long turnover returns for TDs for Bluefield.

For that matter, Matewan practiced on Belfry's field last year when they were traveling for the post season...... AND jetpiolet.... I dont' think any of Matewans' kids traveled to Belfry to play this year so Man doesn't have to worry... LMAO!!!

LOL... I know you were... I was just thowin that out there for ya!! Coach Haywood is VERY good about allowing other teams to use the facility. There are several other turf fields around (SV, SC, Pikeville) but I have never known Coach to tell anyone NO when they needed some help!!

Buffalo Creek is a pretty long commute to Belfry. I doubt that Man is in much danger of having any players poached.
It's nice to see the Man Hillbillies' program back among the top contenders. They had a strong program back in the 80s when I worked in Logan County.
