Freak's Bowl Predicitons Part 2
#1
This edition I will cover

The Hawaii Bowl
The Motor City Bowl
The Champs Sports Bowl
The Insight Bowl
The MPC Computers Bowl

The Hawaii Bowl

Nevada (8-3) vs. UCF (8-4)

Nevada (8-3, 7-1 WAC)

Best Offensive Weapon: BJ Mitchell (238 rushes, 1221 Yards, 10 touchdowns)

Best Defensive Weapon: Adam Garcia (3 INT's)

Average PPG:32.8
Average PPG Against:30.4

UCF (8-4, 7-2 C-USA)

Best Offensive Weapon: Brandon Marshall (63 catches, 985 Yards, 8 touchdowns)

Best Defensive Weapon: Joe Burnett (5 INT's)

Average PPG:29.5
Average PPG Against:25.3

Analysis

I suspect this game will be a torcher. Historically, bowl games in Hawaii are high scoring, and with Nevada's high power offense against a balanced UCF offense, it should be a nice contrast.

George O'Leary has done a marvelous job at UCF. The guy can flat coach, and after the Resume fiasco, it's good to see him back in the college game doing well.

However, I'll take Nevada.

Nevada 38
UCF 31

The Motor City Bowl

Memphis (6-5) vs. Akron (7-5)

Memphis (6-5, 5-3 C-USA)

Best Offensive Weapon: Deangelo Williams (279 rushes, 1726 yards, 15 TD's)

Best Defensive Weapon: Brandon McDonald (3 INT's)

Average PPG:26.1
Average PPG Against:22.2

Akron (7-5, 6-3 MAC)

Best Offensive Weapon: Domenik Hixon (68 catches, 1147 Yards, 7 TD's)

Best Defensive Weapon: Reggie Corner (2 INTs)

Average PPG:23
Average PPG Against:23.3

Analysis

DeAngelo Williams is remarkable. 6.1 Yards Per Carry. He should be a mid-first round pick, and if he played at a major college, he'd be in New York for the Heisman ceremony.

Akron is a hit or miss team. They lost to Army 20-0, but have shown the ability to score as well.

The Motor City has historically been won with huge margins, and Memphis is the better team.

Memphis 35
Akron 10

The Champs Sports Bowl

Colorado (7-5) vs. Clemson (7-4)

Colorado (7-5, 5-4 Big XII)

Best Offensive Weapon: Joel Klatt (241-399, 2696, 14 TD's)

Best Defensive Weapon: Lorenzo Sims (10 tackles per game, 1 INT)

Average PPG:24.5
Average PPG Against:24

Clemson (7-4, 4-4 ACC)

Best Offensive Weapon: Charlie Whitehurst (208-311, 2278 yards, 11 TD's)

Best Defensive Weapon: Tye Hill (3 INT's)

Average PPG:24.2
Average PPG Against:18.2

Analysis

This game is more evenly matched than it looks. If you take out the 70 points Texas put on Colorado last week, the PPG Against average would be around 20 for Colorado.

Charlie Whitehurst is overrated. It seems like we have heard about him for 3 years, and the simple fact is he never really broke out. Sadly, I think he's Clemson's best offensive player.

When it doubt, take the team that doesn't have the coaching controversy (now atleast) and the team that ended the year on a high note.

Clemson 21
Colorado 10

The Insight Bowl

Arizona St. (6-5) vs. Rutgers (7-4)

Arizona St. (6-5, 4-4 Pac 10)

Best Offensive Weapon: Derek Hagan (72 catches, 1113 Yards, 8 TD's)

Best Defensive Weapon: Jamar Williams (3 INT's)

Average PPG:36
Average PPG Against:29

Rutgers (7-4, 4-3 Big East)

Best Offensive Weapon: Raymell Rice (175 carries, 1012 yards, 5 TD's)

Best Defensive Weapon: Ron Girualt (3 INT's)

Average PPG:27.6
Average PPG Against:23.8

Analysis

Arizona St. is really better than there record. Dirk Kuetter's had been on the hot seat lately, and for good reason. If they didn't come back to beat Arizona the day after Thanksgiving, he would have been gone, and if they dont play well on Dec. 27, he could be gone.

Rutgers is a nice story. Schiano has recruited Florida heavily, and this year's success helped him get off the hot seat.

Rutgers is decent, but Arizona St. has more offensive talent, and playing in Phoenix never hurts.

Arizona St. 36
Rutgers 23

The MPC Computers Bowl

Boise St. (9-3) vs. Boston College (8-3)

Boise St. (9-3, 7-1 WAC)

Best Offensive Option: Jared Zabrasky (182-307, 2283 Yards, 17 TD's)

Best Defensive Option: Marty Tadman (4 INT's)

Average PPG:33.1
Average PPG Against:24.1

Boston College (8-3, 5-3 ACC)

Best Offensive Option: L.V. Whitworth (171 carries, 748 Yards, 5 TD's)

Best Defensive Option: Mathias Kiuwanna (sp, probably top 10-15 pick)

Average PPG: 25.7
Average PPG Against: 15.5

Analysis

Boise has the overwelming advantage of playing at home for their bowl game for the 3rd time in 4 years. Zabrasky never did truly recover from the Georgia game, a game in which he was intercepted 5 times.

Boston College is limited offensively, but the defense is a monster. They ranke right with Virginia Tech in defense in the ACC.

Boise has yet to show they can beat a quality, ranked major program. I dont care if this game is in Boise or in the middle of a cornfield, BC wins.

Boston College 28
Boise St. 17
