OMG, I just can't believe it!!!:eyeroll:

Report: Ex-Cubs star Sosa failed drug test in 2003

NEW YORK (AP) -- Sammy Sosa became the latest in a string of baseball stars implicated in the sport's steroids scandal of the past decade when The New York Times reported that he tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug in 2003.

The Times said Sosa is one of 104 players who tested positive in baseball's anonymous 2003 survey, which has been the subject of a protracted court fight. The paper did not identify the drug.

It cited lawyers with knowledge of the 2003 drug-testing results and reported they spoke on condition of anonymity because they did not want to publicly discuss material under court seal.

Sosa is sixth on baseball's career home runs list with 609, all but 64 for the Chicago Cubs. He has not played in the majors since 2007 with Texas.

So this leaves who; Griffey, Jr. as the last great hitter of the era to NOT have tested positive for 'roids?

How can you be sure that he has never tested positive there are still 102 names on this list that has busted Sosa and Arod. How can you know he is not on that list. I am not saying that he is on the list but you cannot really clear anybody from the era because the problem seems to be so wide spread that most likely the majority of players were on some type of performance enhancing drugs.

I personally think the effects of this problem are severely overblown. With all of the out cry over steroids how many people has it kept form coming to the ball park? The answer is 0.

Griffey & Frank Thomas haven't been linked to anything yet, but that's about it. The steroid era stats are about as valid as those pre-1900 stats before the basic rules were set.

I hate to hear this.

I'll take it a step further. Baseball stats have only been legit during the period of 1947 - 1980. The period before 1947 was without the ability of some of the best players to ever play the game (African Americans), and beginning in the 80's, Steroids were beginning to be taken like Candy (before athletes even knew how to cycle). That leaves a period of about 33 years. Not much to hang the hat on.......

Oh well, I'm over the whole steriods deal.

I understand what you mean and don't mean to take your words out of context but only to use them for me to start my own comment.

I am a father of a 16 year-old aspiring athlete who performs extremely well. Yet, what choice do I want him to make when the time comes that he is approached. I can't "not care" , or be over the past and the now in order to make sure I can teach a lesson that it's not OK, even though everyone else uses.....

You can tell he was on them.... He got to big to fast... Just like Bonds, McGwir, and Canseco...
But steriods can't help you hit the ball.

I REALLY dont think baseball was too worried about steroids in the late 90s. This is my gripe. No matter what anyone says, other than Ripken playing #2131, the homerun chase of '98, and the monster seasons Sosa and McGwire had, SAVED BASEBALL. Yes, Griffey and Thomas were both amazing hitters, but the chase is what brought fans back to the game after the '94 strike. I always loved baseball, and always will, but even the diehard "Ill never watch another game" people came back to the game because of McGwires 70 and Sosas 66. Sosa had three 60 homerun seasons (and never led the league, lol), and it upsets me that baseball waited till it got its popularity back to do something about it, and suddenly care. Im a fan of small ball anyways. I'd rather see teams win on strategy and pitching than knocking balls 500 feet, although if the Pirates could win shootouts, that would be fine too. Anyways, Sosa doing roids dont shock me at all, but baseball KNEW him and McGwire was on them, but waited till just the past few years to care. Put him, McGwire, Clemens, Bonds (even though I hate him) and by god, put Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame!

One more thing, I would love to see ANYBODY hit 74 homeruns in one season. Somebody please take that away from Bonds!

They didn't earn it. Ripken and rose yes. The rest need not apply. As for the fictional homerun chase it made for good tv. but is meaningless. I was on the wagon when it was happening but now i feel it was a total waste of my time. Records will never be restored to their rightful owners. Some record holders and their family members came to games and supported those players. It's those players and familys I feel bad for.
