Why do you think they aint good refs? How long has ritchie been a ref? does he have a lot experince? What makes Cook a "crook"? What makes you not like them? If you stay at LCC than only way you will be at Rupp is "Brownosing"

I think Cook, Brian, is an outstanding official. I rank the 14th like this:
1. Brian Cook
2. Tommy Hutton
3. Steve Thomas who will be at Rupp next season
4. Jeff Ritchie
5. Mike Melton
6. Dexter Campbell
7. Glen Napier, fell this far after his fiasco in the region as a parent/fan. Prime example how fans act/parents at officials. You guys get a life.

Personal opinion Tailback 44. Cook can tell you why I call him that. as for Ritchie --my opinion is that he wants to be the center of the show, rather than the players. As for me being at LCC---it beats being at Jenkins. I noticed by your avatar that you have now located in Knott Co. These are my opinions, they are like parts of our anatomy and everyone has one. Whether I like Cook and Ritchie or not (I don't) is irrelevant. The thread is about mountain officials and here is how I would rate them if I were a head coach and why
1. Dexter Campbell- fair, honest, not influenced by ANYONE
2. Tommy Hutton- knows the game
3. Mike Melton- works hard at being right spot, right time
4. Gary Sandlin- improving each year
5. Glenn Napier- doesn't get rattled. i could care less how he acts when he's a spectator.
6-12-- (Not in any particular order)Steve Thomas, Harrison Bailey,Don Hall,Tony Birch,Roy Spencer,David Carmichal.
These are my picks---You can have your own. That's why they are rated each year. As far as LCC going to state, they have as good a chance as anyone. And the thing about it is. If they do go, it will be because they earned it---they didn't whistle their way to it. Hazard won this year because they deserved it. Next year's circumstances will dictate another set of situations and someone will win it again. That's the way it works. I thought LCC got pretty good officiating all year, That didn't beat them in their losses. But then again, LCC didn't have Ritchie or Cook ref ANY of their games. Won 22 and lost 8 Won district for 2nd straight year, made regional semis for 2nd straight year-Pretty good season I'd say.

I can respect your list 'Firechief'. don't agree with some , but I still respect it. We have some the same and to me that's what the true measure is. The one's that show up on everyone's list will probably do the best job. One's that are #1 or #2 on a single list or two and then not mentioned on the next 6 or 8 lists are the ones to be wary of.

JMO...but Tommy Hutton is one of the most unconsitant refs in the region. Brian Cook calls the game consistant from start to finish and thats why he is going. Cook, Dexter, and Jeff Ritchie is my favorite 3. That was JMO about Chad Allen. I thought he was a good ref from what I have watched of him.

Cook was an embarassment to the good officials in the 14th....How him and Black got as many ganmes as they got is beyond me.:flush:

Did not see anything that would embarrass the 14th anymore than what the rest did.

Don't know about embarassed, but the 2 games that he did call lasted over 2 hours due to all the whistles that were blown. I really think that he had to change whistles at half time because he was wearing it out. But other than way too many whistles, I thought we were represented well with our 13th-15th officials this year. And again this year we had a 14th region official at the Championship game, he didn't call, but was at the table as an alternate. That makes about 4 or 5 years in a row we have had a 14th region official in the finals. The 14th must be doing something right.

What in the world did Cook and Richie do to you to deserve this bashing? Other than the Crook thing which I'm sure you have no idea what you are talking about, If you have proof that is different, and Richie, what are you even talking about, he don't blow his whistle much unless there is a train wreck that has too be called, how can you say he wants to be seen. Him and Cook are totally opposites, so you have to make up your mind whether you like someone who blows a lot of whistles and likes to be seen or someone that blows few whistles, make up your mind. That is the problem with a lot of people, they want it both ways. So of course this also shows that you have no idea what you are talking about. And I'm sure that they really missed being at LCC too, that just means they were calling somewhere else. And since we are talking about our rankings. I would have to say my top 5 are:
1. Tommy Hutton
2. Glen Napier
3. Jeff Richie
4. Brian Cook
5. Mike Melton
There are several others that are good officials but these, in my opinion, are the top 5 in the 14th.

I think you could say the same for coaches. You can tell the ones that have actually played the game, because they understand the game a lot better and actually understand what the officials are doing. How many coaches and officials do we have that haven't actually played the game in High school or college?

Blowing or not blowing a whistle is irrelevant to this discussion. I stated that I didn't like Cook OR Ritchie. Cook knows why I refer to him as "CROOK" - ask him. Ritchie on the other hand( in my opinion) wants everyone to see him. people don't pay to watch the ref's. They pay to watch the player. He breaks a kid's or team's momentum if it goes a while and nothing is called, by calling some meaningless call.
As far as Coach's playing, I know that the entire paid staff at LCC played high school AND college ball. Whitaker and Hollan (Hazard) played.Hatcher and Fugate, Hoskins(PCC) all played,Creech(Wolf ) played, Hall (Powell)played, Johnson (Jenkins)played, Cook(JBS) played. tose come to mind without much thought. Your top selections as ref's all played also.
As far as making up my mind----I have and I don't like Crook or Ritchie as ref's. Anything else you want to know? Ask and you shall recieve

That is about what I thought. That should definitely be a rule to coach and ref. If you haven't played the game, you sure shouldn't be able to coach or ref it. Letcher, Perry, Hazard, Wolfe, Estill all have coaches that have played the game and it shows in their coaching and players playing, just like our top officials, You can tell when people know about the game and what to call because they have played it before.

Larry Thacker should have been the head ref down at Rupp. That man has put in so much hard work and time, he deserves it.

Actually I heard he played for team Wanka with the Oompa Loompas :devilflam :devilflam
Really though, I thought he was an all state selection for Dilce Combs back in the day.
He is also a heck of a dustbowl official. He won the MVP a few years back.

I believe this has went a little too far off topic don't you think!
We do have some great officials in the 14th with some great experience. We have 9 with state tourney experience, (Hutton, Napier, Campbell, Cook, Ritchie, Melton, Thacker, Thomas, Allen). They all have been calling over 12 years and do well at their job. We also have some younger officials that will be pretty good in the years to come. This is a very difficult job and everyone will have their favorites, but we all work hard at what we do and if you think you can do a better job, we are very short on officials in the area, so come right out and join us. And yes there are some that may need to get out because it is not the right profession for them, but hey, at least they are trying, more than we can say for some of you official haters.
