Michelle Stoll picked a good time to get her shooting stroke in a groove.
A career-high 18 points by the Newport Central Catholic senior helped the Thoroughbreds to a 66-43 win in the All "A" Ninth Region final Jan. 17 at Dayton.
Stoll made four three-pointers, and earlier in the tourney had scored 15 on five treys in a win over Villa Madonna.
"We came in, did our jobs, and it was really exciting," Stoll said. "We worked really well as a team. My shot was finally there and I got some to fall."
NCC won the regional for the third straight year and sixth out of nine. NCC (11-5) plays the 14th Region champion in the first round of the state tourney 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Eastern Kentucky University. That regional concludes Jan. 24 and Leslie County was the preseason favorite.
