This is going to be a fun game to watch. It will come to a lot of IF's. The IF game will be played more than the game itself.
Biggest IF: If Blume gains over 200 yards, it's lights out for Paintsville.
More IF's IF it's a high scoring game, JCHS wins
IF it's a low scoring game, PHS wins
This Apple Bowl will have it's best crowd in a long time. You better get there early.

Well I havent watched JC play, but I would have to go with JC in this one just b/c of blumes ability to score from anywhere on the field. I said JC 48 PHS 21

Its not just blume thats a scoring threat...Their QB can run the ball really well also. Paintsville cant key on just one player, because their are other athletes on Centrals team that can put up some good numbers. One player in particular that could give Paintsville problems is a WR by the name of Tommy Taylor. I hate to say it, but the Tigers have to play a GREAT ball game if they wanna beat JC. If they dont play well, they will get beat by atleast 3 TD's.

I think Johnson Central will win

I am going to say IF Paintsville steps it up they have a chance beating them. They are more experienced than last year, but so is Central. I'm going with Paintsville if they can stop Blume. Also, coming from a close source to PHS athletics it is said that JC hasn't returned a contract because Matney sees no point in playing this game. If they don't play the game next year I would like to see an Apple Day Classic played on Thursday to replace the Big Sandy Bowl during the festival. Each team playing at one location. Paintsville game at 6 then followed by JC.

"It's a huge game but, from day one, we've wanted to hunt for bigger things than beating Paintsville," Matney said. "Beating Paintsville is nice but our priority is making the playoffs. We know that Paintsville can't play us with the players they have; they have to take what's left over there in town. But now we have the opportunity to focus on them; this week I dared anyone to say anything about them."

Man that is some bulletin board material.

Never underestimate the mental ability of Coach Matney...when he talks big...bulletin board material or not... his teams follow his words.
Example: Vs. Belfry in Regional Finals in 99. Matney GUARANTEES victory over a Belfry team who is playing at home, who ahd previously beaten his cards by over 3TD's, and SC shocks the state with the upset.
Johnson Central has way too many horses, depth, and team speed for the Tigers... JC by at least 3TD's

I heard a RUMOR that Paintsville wanted more of the gate and consession
money. I don't know where the story came from!!!!!:yesno:

Should be a good matchup but i see JC winning. They have played well this year and i think they will win the apple bowl and be the Johnson County champs this year.

IMO Matney is referring to the 10-12 players on Paintsville squad that went to the Johnson County School system at one time or another!!!!

Whether referring to those players or not it is still bulletin board material. I remember a few years ago when Middlesboro's coach said the same thing about overlooking Paintsville and towards the state semi-final game with Beechwood or NewCath ('01 season when they had Durrell White). Paintsville beat 'Boro on their own home field and after the game Matt Runyon handed the coach of the Jackets a copy of his own words that appeard in that local newspaper. Matney could eat his own words, but Paintsville will need to be on top of their game. Anyone can win this game, records are thrown out the window....whoever wants it the most wins. I'm gonna say the Tigers win, but by a Field Goal from Collett.
PHS - 38
JCHS- 35
Who are those 10 or 12 players? I can only think of 4 right now (Blevins, Doderer, Sublett, Ward) and those kids came to PHS during their freshman year.

This is a really awesome game to go too the atmosphere is great to be around.
If Paintsville can get there running game going they will come away with the win.

I can't believe JC will overlook Paintsville! I know they were worried about BC
last week. You are right about throwing out the records they mean very little in this game.
Deaton, Smyth, Doderer, Sublett, Ward, Blevins, Meade and Brown, Ramey played for Paintsville last year I don't know if he is playing this year or not and all attended school in Johnson County at one time or another. If you took these 8 or 9 players off of Paintsville's roster of 33 it would only leave Paintsville with 24 or 25 players. Plus losing a large part of you backfield and the middle of your defense.
I think this will be a great game as it allways is. Central's secondary will have to play great and their D-line will have to put a lot of pressure on Pugh. If Paintsville get's their passing game going it could be a long night for Central! Paintsville will need to stop Central's running game or it could be a long night for the Tigers!

I don't know who Brown is, if you're referring to Casey c'mon look who his brother's are?? Smyth was never from the county, as long as I can remember. Are these kids left overs as Matney makes it sound in his article?? It doesn't matter if he meant it as you explained he said it a totally different way. Even though none of the JC fans would admit it there is a few you could use I'm sure of it.

All I can say is the Tigers better contain Mr. Blume.
09-25-2005, 09:15 PM
1st quarter: Paintsville 14, Central 7; 2nd quarter, Central 21, Paintsville 14; 3rd quarter, Central 49, Paintsville 14; Final: Central 65, Paintsville 20 (maybe).
09-26-2005, 12:49 AM
Same as it was before, JC BIG!!
09-26-2005, 01:46 AM
Casey Brown started at Paintsville, but went to Highlands because of wanting to be held back a year...I think. He was only in the county system for one year maybe two. Adam Smyth has always went to Paintsville as MOJO has stated. The others I can understand, but they (Blevins, Doderer, Ward) transfered over during their freshman season which was Bill Tom Ross' first season under the helm of the Eagles. The others I don't know much about except Sublett and he transferred his freshman year also. I look for a great game, I just hope I can make it to the kickoff on time.

JC by a bunch!!!!

Here is the way I see it. JC and all their fans think the game will be a blow out. PHS is major underdogs and everyone is worried about how big of a night Mr. Blume will have. Last season they shut him down to just 80 and change. Cory Caudill is the reason they won that game last season. Paintsville could have possibly focused on them for 3 weeks in a row for all I know because they knew they were going to win easily. For JC that is not the case they have had two supposid tough district games which they came away with ease. If I know one thing from my old coach, if anyone says something disrespecting his kids he will not let them forget it. I think the Tigers come out pumped, so do the Eagles, flags will fly and in the end the better team will win. People say that Blume is incredibly fast, at the track regionals he ran the 100 meter in 11 something, guess who was 4 hundreths, incase you all don't know how far of a margin that is it is.04 of a second. That was TJ Freeno of Paintsville. I played the game, there is two different types of speed, there is speed speed and then there is game speed. I look for the Tigers to have enough get up to keep up with JC's quick offense. Sure he will break a couple of 20 yarders, but definately no 70 yard TD run. It will be a good game and hopefully the best team will win.

I think Johnson Central will come away with the win in this one but it should be a great game to watch.

Paintsville will not have an answer for Ron Blume, IMO..
I think Paintsville will play tough but fall short..
JC 55
Pville 40

I don't know enough about Paintsville to make an accurate score prediction, but I will Johnson Central in this one with a runaway score.
