Here is a great article in the ADI about coach Keeton from Lawrence Co getting the Sportsman of the year honors from The Independent’s Tony Curnutte Memorial Sportsman of the Year for 2007-08.

Sportsman of the Year honor caps 25 years, over 500 coaching victories for Keeton at Lawrence County
By MELINDA ROBINSON – The Independent
Randy Keeton’s coaching career came to an end last month at the State Baseball Tournament in Lexington.

Or did it?

“It was my last year at Lawrence County and I don’t know what I’ll do next,” the longtime coach said. “I may get back in it if the right situation arose. Once it gets in your blood, it’s hard to get out.”

Keeton, who led the Bulldogs on an impressive run through the State Tournament, is The Independent’s Tony Curnutte Memorial Sportsman of the Year for 2007-08.

After coaching in four decades, Keeton, 61, coached his final game in the State championship at Applebee’s Park in June. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs dropped a 4-1 decision to state powerhouse Pleasure Ridge Park.

“It was great to come in second but it still hurt,” Keeton said. “It was more than just a few tears that night. It bothers me that we got that close and didn’t get it.”
